Just after something that is good value for money. Currently got Yoko A539
on the back (very good) and Dunlop Monza on the front (crap) of the
Statesman.
Are Nankang tyres any good, was offered 205/65/15's for $89 each, the price
is right but are they decent in the wet?
I would prefer something in 225/60/15 if available.

well you know why they are only $89 each?
if they are 1/2 the price of your current tyres that should give you an
indication
I had NanKangs
they lasted less than 20,000klms, were noisy and wet weather grip was
nothing special

You got the bit right about the A539's, stick with them, Korean tyres/
Chinese/ whatever are not good (and Hankook are absolute crap). Its a
Statesman, ferchrissake, get good tyres for it. A539s are the best
choice, and they are relatively chap, compared to Pirelli P-Zero's for
instance..

I'm currently very happy with the Dunlop Le Mans in 215/60/15 up the
front of of my VN Commode, bit pricey though (how much is your safety
worth?)

I have nankang white walled tyres on two Jaguars.
The smaller one has covered 40,000 over the last 6 years and they still
have a lot of tread left, although the are getting hard.
They perform very well on those two cars, lighter vehicles I don't know.

I have used several when all I needed was really cheap , it appears
though there are even difference in hardness and grip in what appears to
be the same tyre form different batches .
So now I use Hankook silica for cheapness.

Yoko A539s are no longer available, superceded by the C-Drive pattern.
The Kumho KH15 might be worth a look.

So many tyres are made in CHina these days, rubber doesnt change much
unless its silicone, rubber comes from trees mostly the mix doesnt
have that much variation these days, the secrets are out...!

There is a surprisingly small amount of non synthetic rubber in tyres .
Lots of carbon and other chemical and some "rubber"

Yeah, looks like the Nankangs are out. It seems not much more will get a
silica tyre that is a lot better.

The C-Drives look good but a bit expensive at the $167 for 225 and $139 for
205. Certainly dearer than the a539's were. Will check out the Kumho's.

They were on the Ford when I bought it and were still good when I sold
it less than one year later so I don't know how many klms they lasted.
They did about 40,000klms on the Corolla which was about the same as the
OE Bridgestones, my wife does lots of short trips which wears the tyres
faster so I would expect a lot more if it did a lot of hwy driving.
My son has Hankook's on his EA wagon and they last about 50,000klms.
