Gday All,

Could someone recommend a hard drive that works with the Z340 after the mod?

I've just done the mod and get "drive not supported" when I hook up a 120gig Maxtor one touch.

I also tried an Ipod which I thought would work but I don't get any messages at all with that, I'm assuming it just can't see it.

I want to buy one from http://www.auspcmarket.com.au/ so if anyone can see a suitable portable drive on there that would be a great help.

Cheers

It only supports FAT32, where you using this or NTFS?

Gday Andy,

Yes the drive I was using is Fat32 but half of the drive is all Mac stuff too.
I don't know how that affects it, from what I have read it needs to be a simple file structure for the Z340 to get on with it.

Do you think something like below will work ok with the Z340?

I must thank you also, it was your site where I found the instructions for the Mod.

Cheers

Don't know to be honest, I used a self powered external USB2 2.5" casing.
My one is branded "For IBM Travelstar" - not that that says much.
Takes a while to index the files if you have a large number of them on the drive, and there is some sort of time out thing as well.
If the player has not finished indexing all the files before it times out you get an error. - maybe this is what you are getting.....

ok, thanks mate.

I'll get that drive and see what happens, sounds similar to the one you used.

Should be able to find another use for it if it doesn't work anyway.

Will report back how it goes so others know.

Cheers

Just to clarify, after the mod is done, the 3 pin USB plug on the mainboard should be UNplugged?

Also what about the other wire that comes off the same plug?, does that need to be UN soldered?
From memory it is power.

cheers

Yes, otherwise the card reader will be trying to drive the lines as well.
(unless you use a switch like I did)
You can disconnect the power wire if you wish, that will stop the light coming on on the card reader. (again, unless you are using a switch)

Quick update on this.

I got it working beautifully with a lacia porsche 120 gig bus powered drive.

No more burning dvds...hurray.

What a great mod:D

Another update on this.

Unfortunately I am having lipsync issues with some of my Divx.

I've put it down to the usb1 connection , I hooked the same drive up to a Zensonic 500 and it worked flawlessly.

Now to find another player.
