My console is having trouble reading a lot of discs. It will play Saints Row (360) perfectly but other games it will play for a few minutes and then give me disc error or it wont even load the disc at all. DVDs have the same problem and tend to stutter sometimes.

Am i best to purchase a new laser or to get a drive?

If i got a new drive do i have to change the firmwire or anything on the console?

NOTE: I have no receipt so i cant claim warranty.

I didn't have a reciept but still managed to claim warranty. Give it a shot.

I recently had a red ring of death, and they never asked to see a receipt. I sent the 'box back and recieved it repaired and quieter within 2 days. Give it a try!

Not quite.
From what I've seen it looks that if they accept it for a warranty fix, they give you an address to send it at your cost and I believe that you are recommended by them not to send it in the original box and just use a plain one.
I've also read that if people don't have a receipt, but recall buying it with the last 12 months, they have been accepted for a warranty fix.

when i had mine repaired they sent me an email with a printable shipping label (postage paid), i merely took it to auspost and sent it via registered postage, i had it bak in about 2\3 weeks but it didnt cost me a cent, besides the bubblewrap i used.

and yeah, they dont recommend using the original box.

Okay i have now received 2 replies from support and they basically told me to call them up.

My 360 has got to the point where it wont load anything at all and will just tell me to Open Tray.

Well its been a few months and i turned my system on yesterday only to find that i have 3 bars on the red ring of death.

Microsoft should fix this as its a known issue to them shouldnt they?

That will be covered by warranty, no problem

Indeed! Microsoft recently announced that they have extended their warranty to 3 years to cover the dreaded 3 rings of death. :)

I tried to register the console on the site under my name but the serial number has already been used by previous owner.

I'll give MYXBOX a call sometime early next week.

Just ring them, they'll do the registration over the phone as part of the process
