Pioneer DV-344 flickering/rolling

I have a pioneer DV-344 dvd player, it came region free (cost extra), when I play some dvd's it flickers/roll very quickly and can't watch program.
Its very annoying and I don't know what causes it or how to fix it.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Is your TV NTSC & PAL capable ? If you're playing Region 1 disks they're usually NTSC & if your TV isn't NTSC capable the picture will be lousy ( to say the least ) .
If your TV is capable of playing NTSC check to see if it has Auto function to select PAL/NTSC itself from the signal it receives .

When I play them through my xbox they work fine? They are both going to the same TV, through the same input, but I just turn the one not in use off and it works fine.
