The hose from the PCV valve actually runs to a (large-ish) port at the
base of the carby.
If there's a hose from the oil cap (not sure about LX era cars myself)
it just hooks up to the side of the air-filter.
Cheers,
Andy.

Correct. That's on one tappet cover. It's also not what he asked about...

So you have no idea of the answer but you felt like responding anyway.
The oil cap on an LX is a sealed flat cap. The crankcase system is a
"closed PCV" system as part of the evaporative emission system.
On the end of the tappet cover that doesn't have the PCV valve in it,
there is a grommet into which a plastic moulded elbow fits. The elbow
is designed to take a larger diameter hose than the PCV hose. The hose
goes to a small filter located in the perimeter of the air filter
housing, with the hose fitting pointing radially out of the housing.
IIRC, the original hose is a fancy shape with two or three kinks in it.
One kink near each end and possibly one in the middle. If the original
air filter housing is pointing in the correct direction, the correct
hose will fit only one way around and it will take just seconds to work
out which way is which. Mackay and perhaps other aftermarket companies
probably still make reproductions of that hose.

Just put a hose on,it dose stuff all, just makes sure all the blowby goes
in the right direction,in the good old days, people just chucked it in
the bin as it got in the way,the old school rices used to fit a crome
thing on the tappet cover costing anywhere up to $68,they claimed adding
one of these and a crome side plates made the car the fastest thing on
the road.
Just after that aftermarkt heads and fancy tappets came in to play, if a
torana owner could afford them every young bloke on the bloke wanted to
give it to the owner right up the ass, next to that torana owner's would
be involved in gang bangs if they had them seam welded.
One thing you could do is run a hose off the tappet cover and run it
through a hole in the bonnet, just a small hole, that way people can see
smoke choofing out of it at the traffic lights, also get in on the nice
smell these engines produce.
I used to blow these things off the road with a 929 Mazda station
wagon,no one could understand how it was possible, they just put it down
the plastic jap crap.

Its true that the early red-motors did just vent to the road thru a
crankcase pipe,..and at night with the highlighting effect of car's
headlights across an intersection, or behind a "breathing" Holden, one could
see the fumes. It was once you saw the fumes clearly in the daytime, that
things were getting a bit grim for the motor.
My BIL had an HQ Monaro 308, which used to leave a pool of oil in the lower
plate of its airfilter hosing. They had a pissy foam filter which failed to
stop oil-mist. Ford used the same thing on some of ttheir cars,...but they
didnt get much blowby due excellent craftsmanship :-)

i have an after market carby, air filter and rocker covers so some of these standard things are not on the motor. wat would be the easiest way 2 do the hoses. someone sugested that i make a plate under the carby and connect it to that. also the drivers side has a breather on it so does that need 2 be replaced with a hose??

Yeah we should chain a 929 towbar to towbar to a Kingswood some time and see
how good they really are...................
Then again this is from a guy who reckons his back is stronger than a crane

If your Torana is used for the road, the correct way is to install a PCV
valve which fits into a neoprene (rubber) grommet in a hole in one of the
rocker-covers. A hose then runs to fitting which can be installed in the
inlet manifold or via the plate you speak of. The size of the fitting will
be sufficient to fit firmly into the hose from the PCV valve. Its important
with this system, to use a vented oil-cap (you can see a number of small
holes with gauze behind them viewing the oil-cap from the underside or
equally, use an oil-cap which is blank underneath with a hose fitting such
that a hose is run to the air-filter housing. You will need to solder an
acess pipe into the air-filter using this way. By doing this last examlple,
you will have a sealed crankcase ventilation sysem. Once these changes are
done (whichever of the two), you'll need to richen the idle mixture, as the
PCV systen constitutes an air-leak at idle great enough to upset engine idle
mixture.

Hey,we have to pay the rates somehow.
Difference between farmer and user,no diff to growing poppies on an
alkaloid contract.
But I had to almost call in the UN because of the idotic behaviour of
the medical system last year, and found that since the late 60's there
was a UN converntion against the use of hallucingenes to keep everyone
thinking on the same level, hence hoping to reduce war and keep and one
world standard for humane treatment.
Some people loose they plot totally on drugs, personally myself,I can
dose Morphine and control it,others go out and shoot people because they
are dishounest and liers.
I ended up having to tell and full trained MD ' will catch ya in the
reasearch lab ' and suggested he go back to school if there was one.

Not much, hey I am restoring My Mazda 929 wagon,am going to use it for a
subcontracting vehicle, pics were posted to ausrotary.com under rusty
relics,they are a serious mess.
We used to say, driving a 929 wagon was like sitting in an F1 car
compared to a Kingswood.
All the Kingswood owners used to love to drive it.
