So reports the Herald Sun
Ford is reviewing its sponsorship as it focuses upon smaller cars.
And it aint happy with the promoters going to China and Bahrain and
that WA is being threatened with having the plug pulled on the event
because of lack of Govco sponsership.
Ford says that the event is for Aussie louts and the prmotoers should
not forget that.

No big loss to me personally if the V8 supercars went AWOL.
But they should seriously go back to racing off the show room floor cars.

Very minor mods I would say maybe exhaust, brakes, wheels and suspension
upgrades and some engine tune tweaking. Other than that factory platform
and basic engine and drive-train.

I presume you mean that the interior can be stripped out and roll cage
added.

and Ford need to consider where most of the XR6/6T/8/ute buyers come from.
Probably the main driving foirce (ouch!) behind sales in those groups is those
same louts fired up by those same silhouette series racers. It sure ain't the
teev ads of a pair of drongos in a ute being followed by a pack of
dogs/women/cop_cars.
Not that I watch it - I grew up with series prod racing, which is REAL racing -
but those that do are their target market.
Talk about cutting off their nose to spite their face. Sort of shite I'd expect
from MMAL.

I remember one race team getting pinged for removing the A/C from a car
that had it standard.

Most of the cars raced in the 70's as showroom models were far from
showroom models and they even got modded in the factory with special
engines and many other tricked up parts only available to race teams but
at least they were a lot closer to standard cars than V8 Supercars.

The old Series Production, but make homologation of go fast bits
unachievable without them being available as standard fitment on
production models.

It depends what part of the '70's you're talking about.
In the early '70's when the original series production rules were in force,
the cars were *very* close to standard, and so much so that a lot of the
lower budget teams had cars that were road registered so they could be
"tested" on suburban streets and driven to and from the tracks if necessary.
From '73 they changed the rules somewhat to "improved production", which
meant things like wider non standard wheels, slick tyres and other "racing
only" mods. From then on things started moving progressively away from what
the man in the street drove to purposely constructed racing cars.

on this we agree, I usually don't suffer motion sickness, but I was almost
seasick after a simple 10 minute trip around town in a 300c, waterbed on
wheels, sweet hemi V8, but handles like a dog on lino.
and for something so huge, it is seriously under anchored as well, I've seen
bigger disks on trail bikes :-)

The winner of the '73 (I think) Castrol 6-hour production motorcycle race
was disqualified because it didn't have a horn.
