Visited Auto alley in Parramatta for a testdrive of the following:

- Suzuki Swift
- Hyundai Getz
- Mazda 2

First was Suzuki Swift. Didn't get the base model I was interested in.
Instead I got a riced-up used one with rear spoilers and after-market fog
lamps. Gear shift not to my liking but car was zippy above 3000 rpm.

Second was Hyundai Getz 1.4l hatch. It comes with five-year warranty and
unlimited km's, builtin mp3/wma/cd player and full-size spare tyre.

Third was Mazda 2. Manual tranny was sold according to sales dude so I got
an auto. Auto is a dog.

I'm quite decided on the Hyundai Getz because:

- Sales dude will offer me five-door for the price of 3-door

- Five-year unlimited-km warranty. Suzuki and Mazda only offer 3-year
warranty.

- Full-size spare.

- Best fuel economy at 6.1 ltrs/100km. Suzuki and Mazda manual trannies
consume about 7.0ltrs/100km.

- Gutless but okay acceleration in peak-hour traffic. Perfect car for
P-plater!!

Thoughts/opinions/critique anyone?

Sounds like most small engined cars, then - not much down low but good
if you're prepared to rev it a bit.

Autos generally are, especially in small cars.

I think the Getz is the only car in that class that you can option ESP
on, and I strongly recommend that you do so. IMHO it's the best thing
to happen to car safety since seatbelts and ABS.

Get a old hyundia shell from the wreckers, pickup a Mitsu GTO twin turbo
front cut,and fit it in the shell.
They will need a 700hp smooth low reving V8 to even come close to
catching that P plater.

cost ya about $4k to do and you can give yourself a 10 year warrenty if
you pocket is deep enough.

The Hyundai dealership appears to be REALLY REALLY KEEN on closing a deal
before the end of May. So I set my asking price high first and see how much
I get out of it. But I get $2k from the Magna, I'd still think its fair.

What you get for the Magna is irrelevant really, as your only concern should
be the change over price.

How they fudge the figures for your trade and buy price is *their* business.

Of course. The 5-door 1.4ltr lists at $15990. However the sales dude says he
can offer me a 5-door for the price of a 3-door which is $14990. So let's
say deal charges are $2k, that's a total of $16990. I'll be happy with a
changeover price of $13k with my trade in.

Id say that $3k would be close to the mark if its good order and groomed up
for sale.

The Magna is definitely in good working order and its rego'ed 'til Aug. But
there some cosmetic glitches such as a missing hubcap and scratches/dents.
P-plater car, you see.

I've got a 2004 1.3 Getz 3 door auto in immaculate condition with only
31000km/s and 27 months of it's new car warranty remaining you can have for
11 & a half grand, and you can keep your Magna if you like :)

Thanks for the offer, but:

- I believe you reside in Vic and I'm in NSW. Too much effort to go there
for a lawnmower.

- You have an auto and I prefer a manual.

- You have a 3dr and I prefer a 5dr.

- I WANT to get rid of the Magna so I don't have to worry about it and the
running costs. If some wrecker would offer me $3 grand for it, I'd take his
money.

Q on trade in a car on another one (updating to new or used) ... does
the length of rego left up the trade in value? I know it does on
private
sale, is it more a numbers game with the dealer?

Got a vehicle here to go, no, not my 'lux.

In your opinion. Personally, I think anything Toyota makes at the moment is
over priced, and far from the best in it's class.

Toyota seems to be going down a well worn road in that they've established
themselves as a maker of reliable cars, now they're prepared to dish up any
old crap and rest on their laurels knowing that people will buy the badge,
rather than the vehicle.

I agree wholeheartedly.

Centre mounted speedo's went out with Mini Minors, and they were even a
horrible idea then.
