Just as a matter of idle interest - HDMI V1.2a specifies AFAIK 8 channels of
LPCM audio can be carried over the connection, besides the obvious video
part.

Coming in at the end of this, I can't recall if you discussed what your
budget is, but in Sydney at least, I found 2 places today that were
offering to sell the VSX-1016 significantly cheaper than list price.

Domayne at Alexandria had it new for $1040, and Bing Lee had their floor
model for $860. (Silver). NAPF at Summer Hill had their floor model for
$876, so I'm guessing a lot of Pioneer is being discounted in
preparation for new models. If you aren't stretching that far, it might
be worth hunting around for somewhere with an 816 on display that might
be prepared to knock it down to get it off the floor.

I have to agree Lee. Getting a run out model and being at the right place
at the right time helps.
I recently picked up a Sony 52" Bravia X series LCD TV (KDL52X2000) for
$7300. Not bad for TV that retails for $9999.

Alan

Unfortunately that's still over my budget. I have seen the 816s around
the mid-$600 new in a box and the 516s for $400. If I buy the 816 then
add a sub and speakers which I haven't worked out any brands yet I will
probably have to go hungry for a week. :(

Arghh Just noticed that my house mate (Freddy the FATHEAD) has changed
the default newsreader settings again. No matter Fathead pays for the
connection, ha ha.
