Am trying to reinstall/repair XP Home on my computer via the CD..
The process started, got to 35mins left and a blue scren with the following
mesage appeared
" a problem has ben detctected and windows has been shut down"
PROCESS1_INITIALIZATION_FAILED
TECH INFO : STOP: 0x0000006B (0xC000003F,0x00000002,0x0x00000000,0x00000000)

Subsequent reboots restart the installation where it left off, the same
problem occuring, the loop continuing..Have tried rebooting with XP boot
floppys but get taken to the installation restart, SAFE MODE, " SAFE
CONTINUE WITH INSTALLATION, SYSTEM REBOOTING".......
,............cant get out of this loop..
I DONT have ROXIO GO BACK associated with NORTONS installed
I suspect I may have been hit with a trojan to get me into this mess as a
virus scan had found and hopefully eliminated before the install.,,,
I dont mind rebuilding but would love to SAVE some FILES and SETTINGS if I
can get to that point first......

Can anybody HELP?
ANY HELP MUCH APPRECIATED

Kind Regards

You must be reinstalling thru windows explorer, that wont work with the
updates xp has installed on the OS.Simply install xp cd,boot to xp cd (set
BIOS
for this if needed),at xp cd boot menu, select install xp,new copy, delete the
partition,create one,then xp formats and installs auto.Otherwise,at
menu,select
repair this copy, you'll loose all updates,& by the time it takes to repair
and reinstall
updates, you could have a new copy installed,+ repair may not be right, then
youre
back to clean install again...

He said that he was reinstalling/repairing via the CD, but I agree that
a new install with a format is the best way to go.

Cheers,

Cliff

Have you ever noticed that if something is advertised as 'amusing' or
'hilarious', it usually isn't?

As far as I'm concerned, it isn't at all clear exactly what "via the
CD" means. He *may* be trying to do it incorrectly.

But that depends entirely on what he was trying to accomplish. He
didn't specify what his problem was, but in many cases, a repair
installation can solve a problem with a minimum of effort. And even if
there's just a chance that a repair installation will work, it's
almost worth the small effort it takes to try it. Best case, you save
a lot of time and trouble. Worst case, you wasted a small amount of
time trying it.

Hi All

Many thanks for our replys
The problem I have now is I cannot get to a menu starting point on CD or
otherwise to give me options.......
A blue screen error message now occurs whether I reboot from XP startup
floppys, safe mode or CD (which just restarts install where it left off)
