View Full Version : Files that did not fragment

I've read lots about this and know about paging files, system files, files
in use etc.

The reason I defragmented was to try to improve the performance of a game as
suggested in the game's forum. To be on the safe side, I defragmented in
Safe Mode but wouldn't you know it, the only thing that wouldn't defragment
was the game's folder. All 958MB of it.

So, it's not a page or system file and it's not being accessed. Why then,
can't I defragment the game folder?

WinXP Pro SP2, XP Disk Defragmenter

Thanks.

From http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals/default.mspx selecting
File and Disk Utilities will get you PageDefrag utility (among others). This
defrags various including the registry on startup.
Another point regards your topic is that some games such as DarkMessiah
require a lot of Page file ~ 4000 MB or 4 Gig recommended.
