View Full Version : Biglove and Polygamy in Australia

I've been watching Biglove on SBS and now I am dreaming of having
multiple wives. I know it is illegal in Australia, but are there any
loopholes or ways that a person can achieve a state similar to
polygamy without it legally being polygamy according to the letter of
the law?

sure, if you only marry one, or none, it's not polygamy.
you see it from time to time on ACA or TT, stories of men with multiple
families, all together or in separate houses (usually on welfare or some
sort of religious commune).

Marry one and have the rest as de factos.
Marry one, divorse her, marry number two, divorse her, marry number
three. As above but with more legal history.

Yep. You can have big glitzy weddings with all the trappings, but hte
celebrant can be a local actor! Don't get a marriage licence.... how many
brides would think to check about htat, so long as they have the giant
frothy white dress and flowers and crap?

Just don't get 'offically' married... or at least don't use a proper
marriage celebrant etc.
Its quite bizarre in this day and age that poligamy is still such a big
horror that must be
stamped out - and yet you're quite free to have as many defacto partners
(of either sex) as you like, as many children to as many different
partners as you'd like, etc.
