Ok, my LP makes everyone talk like chipmunks my SP makes the tape look 20 years old, and the timer doesn't run properly... Gets jammed, like what happens when the tape reaches an end.
The heads are clean.. So is it time for the big video grave yard in the sky and get a DVD recorder?

oh and anything recorded works fine on my crappy mono video, so it isnt the tape
What is VHS ?
nah really, if you don't mind spending the money, a DVD or HD recorder would be the way to go. but you can buy stereo VCR's quite cheap these days, and you can still watch your VHS collection which I'm sure you would have.

SO you're saying that you record on Long Play and if you play it back on the same machine, they're all in chipmunk land? If so, your Long Play function is kaput. As quick as the time flies in chipmunk mode [watch titanic in an hour and 15 mins!], it's not very enjoyable :p
So yeah, time to give the VCR the arse I think [or at least chuck it in another room]. I saw a few lookers at K-Mart the other day ... [oh, AND some VCRs :p]; around the $200 mark with stereo inputs and longplay. A cheap substitute like that will be good enough me thinks.

yeah thats it Mac, but SP it is FUBAR to, not chipmunks, but recording looks like a tape from the video store which was manufactured in 1981.
Yeah no need to get a 6head player again..... VHS sux.

FWIW, I just bought a new VCR for my sister's birthday.
6 Head, Stereo, LongPlay, NTSC etc etc etc for $199.
It's an LG from Grace Bros. I personally would spend the extra $50 over the cheapie 2 head monos and get the stereo. At less than 200 bucks, you can't go that far wrong.

Yeah the stereo is very important. I have a crappy 2 header in the other room. But thats an awesome price, will have to check out Myers next weekend..
I can't believe I spent $629 5 years ago for the 6 head player.... Paying that today would be madness

In April 2000 I spent $550 on a Teac DV-1000 which was a P.o.S.
But at the time I was totally wrapped - most machines were at least 7-800
Tsargrad, Orko or is it "Mac has too much time on his hands"
In JB HiFi's latest cattledog they are advertising the LG ( best of the cheaper brands IMHO) 6 head that dvdude was talking about for $197 including 4 180min tapes. Fark, might even get one myself !

Haven't had a VCR for over 3 years... time to bury it and move with the times.
Get a DVD recorder or STB with HDD!
