Does anyone have any recommendations of some good ANIME for someone whom has hardly seen any and wants to check out some good titles.

I'm not full on into it, so I can only recommend a few titles that I own....
If you like vampire stuff, you must get the Hellsing series and Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust. Bloody awesome stuff!
Cowboy Bebop is another excellent series, plus there is a movie available in region 4. (The various DVDs of the series were down to something like $14.00 each at Big W a month or so ago.)
I think I've reviewed all of the above, so you should be able to do a search in these forums to find out more about them.
I've also got the first Robotech 3 DVD Box, which is cool if you like the old series.
You already know about Neon Genesis Evangelion, so no need to go into that.
Ninja Scroll is an oldie, but a goodie....
I own or have seen a few other things, but these are the ones I'd recommend. :)

I picked up the 2 disc R4 copy of Metropolis for $14.99 from JB Hi-Fi, and watched half of it.. So far very good.
Reminds me alot of the non fighting scenes in a Final Fantasy game.

can i ask what store and state you picked that up in? Also, did they have any more copies? I'm trying to get my local store to do a price match coz the catelogue didn't come out here.

Yep JB Hi-Fi, Lonsdale Street - Melbourne City.
They had probably 20 more copies on show - but I think they'd have many not on show aswell

Haven't seen much anime, but the stand-alone movie of Ghost in the Shell was intriguing. It's an old one but is apparently still very well regarded, even as a crossover / breakthrough film for anime.
Another one I saw, a while ago, was a film about a hitman - Golgo 13: The Professional - kind of brooding animation, I remember being entertained by it (as a film it was also self-contained).

Yeah I have seen Ghost In The Shell and it didn't really appeal to me... This is probably 3 or 4 years ago now.
Pity the classics like Astro Boy and Voltron (the lions, not the crappy car one) are not on DVD..

Anime rocks, here are my suggestions:
Ghost in the shell - awsome! must see for any anime fan.
Akira - one of the greatest animes ever made. little bit abstract but still wicked.
Evangelion - probably my favourite series.
Samurai X: the movie - really cool if you like samurai stuff. The series version of it, Ruouni Kenshin, is addictive as well.
Blood: the last vampire - really short, but the 3D effects are killer on a nice TV or projector.
Gasaraki - i just got the boxset and i've watched 3 dvds so far and its a brilliant series.
Gun smith cats - nice 4 episode series.
Spriggan - pretty cool, nice easy to follow movie.
Bubble gum crisis - wicked series, cheap 6 dvd boxset $80.
thats about it off the top of my head, i'm sure i'll think of more later but they are the main ones u gotta see!

There are plenty put there.
You been to those specialty shops where they are cray about anime, with figurines, models and all this stuff. There's plenty in Box Hill.
Basically all good ones mentioned above.
I recommend:
Initial D - Good, if you like cars.

At the moment I'm watching Chobits and Boogiepop Phantom. Chobits is really funny with over-expressed emotions and thoughts by the main character, Hideki. It's really cute. Boogiepop Phantom follows the tradition of anime such as Lain and Vampire Princess Miyu. Strange...

New one came out about a month ago, called GANTZ.
Only the first DVD has been released so far, but i thought it was pretty good and will definately buy the entire series.
Also, if downloaded off the internet, it may be the cut and edited version which was created for Japanese TV. The original was way too graphic, and so was masively edited.
BLURB OFF DVD...
"The last thing Kei remembers us the train running over hs body, crushing him. Now he finds himself in a room filled with strangers, all recently deceased, all resurrected by the strange black sphere known only as Gantz.
Their reprieve from death may only be temporary, however. Unless they complete the brutal missions that Gantz assigns, none of them will live long enough to leave the room. Is this strange "afterlife" for real, or just a dream? All Kei and the others know is that if they fail the mission, they will die together"
