What GSM frequencies does Australia use?

I know 3 Mobile uses 2100MHz for UMTS and Telstra use 850MHz for UMTS but
what GSM bands do the various carriers use? Also, what UMTS band are optus
and vodafone going for?

900 MHz primarily for old GSM, with some 1800 MHz for infill. A
phone with 1800 MHz but no 900 MHz may not even be able to
register.

All non-Testra Australian UMTS is 2100 MHz.

Tel$tra actually share 3's 2100 MHz UMTS Network as well.

(along with the 850 and 2100 this country uses, 1900 is used elsewhere)

No, 1900 is only used in the Americas. 2100 is the "standard" UMTS frequency
elsewhere.

Just wait for a "world phone". ;) 850/900/1800/1900 GSM with EDGE and
850/900/1700/1900/2100 3G with HSDPA...

Standard was a poor choice of word. 2100 would be the most popular.

It is owned by an entity, 3GIS, which Telstra and 3 jointly own

The original OP wrote "Telstra shares 3's network"

This is not the cause. They both share an entity owned equally by both. That
