Some programs - not all depends on both the program makers if they supply
them and or if the station decides to have them done locally as SBS does for
a lot of their programs. Channel 7 does them via their Teletext service so
some STB's have problems.

Dr Who on ABCTV has subs on both HD and SD

The bandwidth used by HD would not leave much room for them.

But they do already transmit subs - it's not a question of SD or HD here in
Oz - it depends on if the production company supplying the program has
produced subs or the station commission their own like SBS and ABC often do.
I've been watching both SD and HD using subs for years via my Topfield 5000
and on my computer using Dvico HDTV card

Isnt it called Closed Captioning? SOme shows do support it and some dont.
They usually show an icon at the start of the show if they include them.
