Ask your dentist if it's possible to have the back molars removed instead and allow the wisdom teeth to grow in their place. It worked for me, and I highly recommend it after my daughter's recent terrible experience having all four of her wisdom teeth removed under general anaesthetic, due to crowding. The wisdom teeth have deeper and twisting roots, and there's a risk of bits breaking off, infection and permanent nerve damage during wisdom teeth removal, and it looks as though my daughter has been one of the unlucky ones on all counts.

In my case, the dentist removed the rear molars under local anaesthetic (I was awake, but didn't feel any pain) to make way for the wisdom teeth, which then moved down into the spaces left by the molars. By comparison with what my daughter went through it was a picnic.

I'm not wanting to increase your anxiety further, but to let you know that there might be a better, and perhaps safer,
option.

well the dentist said a couple of options were to either get my wisdom teeth out or remove the rear molars...This is gonna sound so weird but i have always loved my teeth!! and the idea of the whole removing the rear molars scares me...lol

and thanx for the good luck :)

Your very welcome. :)

Please reconsider. Your wisdom teeth will make perfectly suitable molars.

Yeah I second the second molar option thing. One of my inlaws is a dentist and doesn't even do wisdom teeth because it can be dangerous. I got the low down and xray examples and so on when I was being told about it. The wisdom tooth nerve can wrap around other nerves traveling to other places in the body. It can paralyze your face for example I think... maybe a lot more. She made it sound insane because I was implying that she wasn't a legit dentist so I don't know exactly. She made it sound like it could leave a person paralyzed but I seriously doubt it. Anyhow, it's standard to sort of break the tooth into peices and remove the peices rather than ripping the whole thing out for the reason that if the xray missed out on spotting any nerves wrapping around each other, they might be seen while the thing is coming out. I'm supposed to get all 4 of mine out on account of 2 having cavities and that filling wisdom teeth is usually only a temporary fix, but I'm rethinking it that maybe I should just have them filled and then make extra sure to jam the toothbrush down my throat to get the entire tooth from then on. They take all 4 instead of 2 because apparently the bite is what keeps them from continuing to grow, so if one on each side was removed, the remaing two would get really long... that's bizarre, makes me feel like I have shark teeth back there or something.

Good luck with it. The test will be over soon enough.

Hi MD, you're looking mighty fine in those cling wrap underpants today :|

I dunno about that. I had my bottom left wisdom tooth yanked out years ago. I still have the other three and have not had a spot of bother since. Still, I'm with ff and MD....avoid removing wisdom teeth if you can find another viable option. I had mine done under a light sedation and the actual procedure was a breeze, no pain and only a very vague recollection of the goings on. I found it most difficult afterward what with the discomfort etc. Even so I had it pretty good with very few problems but multiply that by 4 teeth and I imagine the story would be quite different. Hopefully you won't get inundated with too many horror stories and if you do find you need to get them removed don't worry about it. The days of discomfort are well worth getting rid of a lifetime of troubles.

If you KNOW you're prepared for the test - then your biggest enemy is FEAR.

Just think realistically for a moment, and realize that fear, though a natural one, is a WASTE of an emotion. - it usually gains you nothing.

Buckly up - take a few deep breaths before you write.
Pray - and do your best ^_^

(sry about your toothies :\)

I had all 4 of my wisdom teeth removed last year. I could have had the top 2 taken out in the chair, but I decided to have them all taken out in hospital because the bottom 2 had to be anyway because they weren't thru, and I hated the idea of the chair from the start.
The reason I had to have mine taken out is what MeanDean mentioned - the roots from one of the wisdoms were getting very close to a movement nerve, and if it were to grow around the nerve and they removed the tooth, it would have ripped the nerve and left my mouth paralyzed. That is also another reason why I had to have them taken out in hospital; the dentist didn't want to touch the bottom ones when the root was so close to the nerve.
The whole experience was surprisingly good for me. I had no real problems with it at all and never really felt any pain afterwards unless I knocked my jaw accidentally. My jaw did ache at times, but nothing major.
I was well drugged up on Nurofen Plus and antibiotics for 4 days after the operation, which had to be taken religiously every 6 hours to keep the pain well under control, which meant I was setting my alarm to get up at 4am just to take pills, but the inconvenience was worth it considering the pain I could have been in.

So overall I had a pretty good run with it all. I was packing myself for ages before the operation, but that was mainly because I'd never been put under before. But even that was a breeze for me and if I had to do it all again I wouldn't hesitate. :)

Good luck with your teeth, and I hope your test goes okay :)

Good luck with tests! Think positive chicky and you'll be ok!:)

About your wisdom teeth, it's your choice what you do at the end of the day. I had my 4 wisdom teeth taken out 9 years ago as i was experiencing neck infections, ear infections from the 4 wisdom teeth trying to come through. Mine couldn't as they were stuck and growing sideways and pushing all of my other teeth (yes, it bloody hurt too!). So all in all i had no choice and it was the best thing i did for my mouth by getting them out. I have no problems anymore with my teeth.

Has your dentist said if you can have them out in the chair or in surgery? I had surgery and i figure it's a good option as you don't know whats happening and you wake up with it all over and done. Let us know on the up dates.....;)

I got my test results back. The woman i go through with dandenong tafe sent my results through.

You got 19.5/20 marks. That equates to 98% - High distinction. Well done!!!
