Hi
I want to buy a Divx player with a USB port but don't want to pay more that $60.
Are there any of these machines available?
Cheers :)

Thanks for all your replies!!
Hopeless.
I think the amount of replies are equal to the amount of suitable players that meet your criteria;)

Keep an eye out at Aldi....my brother just bought a cheapie dvd with usb and divx playback for 35 ish bucks....obviously not meant to last long but he says it plays all the files he has thrown at it...divx rips of tv shows mostly playing of a 2.5 laptop drive and also mem stick. I was at Target today and they had a Bush branded player that advertised divx and had usb connection for 49.95....no idea what chipset or how it plays though...someone more knowledgeable could help you there. For the money you are looking at you will need to expect compromises tho.....
BTW has anyone had any experience with the BUSH player and it divx playback...particularly its usb function??
Cheers

Coles recently had MTV DVD players marked down from $118.00 to $30.00 and they have a USB connection, an SD card connection and an HDMI connection amongst other things on them.
They only read the first file on multi-session discs though.

I would be interested if any of them are USB2 capable. Most players are not. They just have USB1.

Do the usb ports provide enough juice to power a 2.5 inch (laptop) usb drive...? Does usb speed matter so much if it is only divx files...I assume usb 2 would be useful if you were looking at viewing higher bitrae stuff...or is this incorrect?

I think watching movie (divx or dvd) would need USB2.
You won't get one with USB2 for $60. If you do please let me know.

Q1- Most do not/can't support 2.5in drives, some even have trouble with powered drives ......all do USB sticks
Q2 - hmmm, I have a couple with usb 1.1 and they play standard resolution files fine and 720i/p files .... hi res files, most machines can't handle the codecs on DVD, so it's a moot point on usb. Hi bitrate stuff too will most likely give the chip problem anyway, so again moot. I have found USB sticks usually play better than CD-rw's because of the low transfer rate you can get off a cd .... usb.1.1 sits somewhere between cd and dvd for data transfer.
The real practical problem I have had with usb is is it very limited in terms of fast foward, skiping, rewind type functions ....it's ok if you are only interested in linear viewing, but if you want to skip to a timepoint, dvd is much quicker ans some usbs just wont do it.
I am not sure usb 2 would really make much difference to the above limitation either??

p.s.: I am referring to encoded xvid, divx or mpeg4 files here - not vob files
Catch of the Day have a DivX player with USB for $49.80 + $9.95 delivery (today only) - that would just fit into your budget.
Be warned that I know nothing about it, so it could be utter rubbish for all I know....
