I've heard people say the UBD is better but FIIK why :-) As an example we
had to look up Currumbin. Not knowing where that is we had to look through
the 3 seperate indexes. In the melways if you open the back page you get an
index (as with most reference books) but with the UBD you get an ad.

I don't suppose the fact that Currumbin isn't even IN Brisbane but is 100km
away in Gold Coast City would've been a factor 'eh Michael?

You don't appear to have a fucking clue fatso. The fact that it is 100km
away was exactly my point. Because it wasn't close enough to brisbane it got
itself into the second (or third?) section of the book. That meant when you
looked up the main index it wasn't there. You had to go to the second index
and possibly the third index to find it. None of these indexes where that
big that they needed to be seperate.

The really funny thing is that while you constantly try your best to prove
to yourself how smart you are on these forums you really feel inferior. (why
would you try so hard otherwise??).

Me either.

Melway is the standard here in Melbourne, and their sales would most likely
be more than every other street directory combined.

Melways was originally started here in Melbourne around the early 1960's,
I was driving taxis then and the Melways was the "Holy Bible" of the taxi
drivers
better by far than the Gregory's and Morgans and the UBD
then Melways branched out to Sydney and Brisbane creating the
Sydway and Brisway directories
The turkeys in Sydney didn't like that anyone from Melbourne would even dare
to make a new street directory of "THEIR" town, that they canned it even
before it was distributed.
Now, lo and behold, street directory makers have copied the format of the
Melways.

and you should remember Noddy, you were around when Melways started

I have still got my Melways number 1 and number 4, minus the covers, but
still there

I found a 1960 leather-bound Gregory's the other day when I was
sorting out some old boxes of books. Can't remember if I kept it or
threw it! ;-/

The fact that they're seperate cities 100km (or 200km) apart didn't help you
figure out this unfathomable puzzle did it Micheal?
The simple expediant that if you had the the smidgeon of intelligence
required to identify what city you are in (and select the corresponding
colour-coded section of the book) you could then choose from a much smaller
and more specific index instead of bumbling though a big one eluded you did
it Michael?
Fuck me; if you couldn't pick from a choice of three then a big index is not
really gonna help you is it......

One post a year when your stupidity exceeds even the high standards you've
previously set is "try so hard" in your books is it poor sooky-Michael?

(PS. What's it like in other capitals? Does the Sydney directory include
Wollongong and Newcastle, the Melbourne one include Portsea and Geelong etc?
In separate sections or combined with the capital's streets in the one
index?)

Umm, Sunshine Coast, Brisbane and Gold coast. IF you combined them all and
trying to find 'Main Street' or 'High Street' imagine how many areas you
would have to go through.

Theres a suburb section at the front, Currumbin would of course be in the
Gold Coast Section.

Whats the issue? Did you not know which area it was in? One would assume
that you know what part of the state its in....

Works just fine in the melways and the total number of maps is similar.
Obviously you need to know the street name and the *suburb*, then it's easy
to find no matter how many there are.

The UBD Refidex's arent made to last seeing as SEQld is growing at such a
fast pace rgey dont make em to last more than a couple of years. They are
way out of date with approx 750 new streets added each year to the UBD
version.

Being from Melbourne all I knew was it was in QLD and not unreasonably far
from us.

It's often written in big letters at the airport Michael. (and in slightly
smaller letter on your 'plane ticket!)

I have not read your reply but I'm sure it's full of your usual shit. The
fact is that I am not from QLD makes it perfectly reasonable for me to not
know where currumbin is. I should have been able to look up 1 index to find
the suburb but due to the poor design of the book I had to look up 2 or 3.
I'm not sure what exactly is so difficult for you to understand about that.
I don't really see how you even think there is some sort of debate possible
about this. I know you think your some sort of genius because you know where
currumbin is and I don't and you think that all your christmases have come
at once because you finally know something that someone else doesn't.
