It has a snap ring holding it into the trans, and it should just pop out
with a bit of force.

The easiest way is to remove the lower suspension arm from the bottom of the
strut then pull on the rotor using that for a bit of leverage to pop the
shaft out of the trans. If you want to take the shaft out of the car
completely, remove the nut holding the outer CV in the hub and you should be
able to pull the strut far enough out of the way to get the shaft out
without disconnecting the stub axle.

They can be very tight on Magnas but a pry-bar usually gets them.

Noddy has suggested a good method, but if you get really stuck you can
seperate the innr joint (undo clips and pull boot back and remove circlip as
applicable and the CV will slide out of it's housing) pull the shaft out
that way too.

thanks for the info
I will give it a try later today
I might have to get me a better prise bar
Apparently they use a long one in suspension joints to crack the axle
out of trans.....
Any pics of one of these would be appreciated
thanks

That sort of thing which you can get from plenty more places for much better
prices, but any sort of crow bar type lever should do the trick. I've only
ever used a big (BIG!) flatblade screwdriver or a tyre lever in the past to
get the job done.
