Hey,
I was looking at the latest Big W catalogue and they have the XBOX 360 arcade for $388. It got me interested...
So i then went into EB Games and asked them about the difference between this console pack and the other normal ones. They said that the differences are that the arcade comes with a 256MB memory unit instead of a 20GB HDD, it doesnt have a headset nor a network cable..
I thought that it was fair enough...
Then they said that it wouldn't play certian games such as the new final fantasy game, etc.. obviously games with good graphics..
This was the part that didnt make sense to me..
Would this be true?

Well some games require you to actually have the hard drive, not many but a few.

You definately wont be able to play Final Fantasy XI Online with the Arcade core model as you need at to have around 12gb of data installed locally. The football manager titles also need the harddrive.

So yes around 3 or so xbox 360 games you wont be able to play on this arcade model unless you go and buy a harddrive.

I believe some stores actually have the new Pro Xmas Pack which has the 20gb hdd, wireless instead of wired controller, 2 games (forza 2 and viva pinata) for $499-$529 now. Well worth paying the extra money.

Yeah Big W also had that advertised too for $498...
I have friends that work at Big W and every now and then they have a one day off staff discount day, where they get 10% off whatever...
So getting the $498 pack for $450 is pretty good.
Thanks for that, just wanted to make sure before i went and bought something that I didnt go and buy a console that didnt play certain games. The EB Games guy was a bit cloudy with his information..
So the reason for not being able to play the games is only because of the hdd..
I might go with the XBOX 360 arcade as i probably wont use LIVE all that much...
I dunno, i guess it always good to have it their incase...
Anyway, thankyou very much for that. :)

Big W are having 10% off for Woolworths discount card holders this coming Saturday and that $498.00 pack in the catalogue on special will be around $448.00.
That's an excellent price and another good thing about having the hdd is that it will be handy if you want to download game demos from Live.

On the other hand, the other pack will be 10% off as well and can be had at a very nice price too. :)

Yeah, well that's what i was planning..
They have the Wii's for $348 too.. So that comes down to $313.20, which is cheap i guess...
I dunno... this is for my Christmas present, but im also looking at GPS'...

No matter which one you go for, you'll definitely be getting a bargain at those prices, so make sure you go in early as a lot of those popular items are sure to be popular with people who see the current sale prices and staff who want to grab an Xmas bargain. :)
Oh, and no I don't work for Big W. :p
