Well I don't know what happened in Shitney today, but out near Oberon
NSW the prices (that don't follow the weekly rollercoaster) went up 6c/
L for all fuels yesterday.

That's the first rise in a few months.

It's probably the combination of crude oil being $US100 per barrell, a
lack of refining capacity and the fact that the Aussie dollar has
slipped from about 93 cents US back to around 88 cents.

You also find that prices spike later in the week in Sydney.

I kind of suspect that fuel prices have been kept low prior to the election
to make Howard look good. Now the opposite applies.

Sydney.

you are wrong , check the market and how the AU$ dropped on
announcement of who won last week , now the fuel companies wont miss
the chance to add the 6c to fuel instantly .

Sorry but the price in Australia closely tracks with refinery price
from Singapore ...

http://www.accc.gov.au/content/index.phtml/itemId/793605/fromItemId/11938

Or would you like to argue that price of unleaded in Singapore was
also kept low for the Australian election?

Thus endeth the conspiracy theory.

LOL..call it ugly but the higher fuel prices get the more beautiful it looks

Almost.
It's the OilCo's pointing their collective arse at the new GovCo.
We'll see whether there's any reaction.

Place your bets.

You think that the oil companies are responsible for the high price?

depends on whether you want to help north shore petrol stations pay for
higher real estate costs
