Telstra western region general manager Chris Taylor is "absolutely
confident" the CDMA network will close according to schedule on January 28.
And with 15 per cent of customers yet to migrate to new Next G technology he
said an estimated 7000 western region customers were fast running out of
time.

"Telstra shops have been flat out for months and staff in many centres,
including Dubbo, are working extended hours to cope with last-minute demand,''
Mr Taylor said.

"The Dubbo shop in Macquarie Street will be trading from 8.30am to 6.30pm
from January 21 and 9am to 5pm on weekends, including the Australia Day
holiday period

"We've already put two new computer terminals into the Dubbo retail outlet
to cope with demand and staff are really feeling the pressure as an average
of 250 customers switch over to Next G every week.''

Mr Taylor said at this stage there were plenty of new "blue tick" phones
(recommended for country use) in stock but Next G car kits were in short
supply.

From January 29 existing CDMA mobile numbers will be quarantined by Telstra.

After 30 days they will be returned to the Telstra number pool.

numbers for them til they make up their minds within that 30 day period. Call it

Depends where you are, I s'pose. For me GSM/2G is fine in and around the towns
where I live. But venture any distance from the Princes Highway and it's fucked.

Thing is, NextG where I work, about 12km from the highway and from the nearest
town is as marginal as what GSM is. CDMA is a little better, but not much. Some
rooms in the building can get a signal while others cannot. And it's not all the
same for each network, either.

As at network closure, all remaining CDMA services not in the process of
migration, will be disconnect.

For 28 days (not 30), you will be able to be reconnected for the express
purpose of doing a migration

Car kits are optional accessories. No need for Telstra to stock them at all
They dont manufacturer them so they have no control over the situation

I also said Telstra is under no obligation to let you have it back, which
