Basically, yes. The controller functions are provided by the drivers installed specifically for it.

I must be honest with you, Tony - I am heavily biased against internal modems and would rather not suggest one or even two for you to consider. Especially if you have a better than average ISP and a clean phone line because that is where they fall short. I'd feel rotten if you are were not happy with it and I think that is more of a possibility for on-line gaming. External modems are a different matter and I'll be happy to recommend a couple if you are so inclined.

Hi Tony

I have used both Internal and External Hardware modems in the past. My current PC came with a modem installed and it is consistently the fastest. The phoneline has been the same for all three types.

The current modem is an Intel HAM (Host Accelerated Modem). From memory you live in the UK and this modem can be purchased from many online stores for £15.00. If you want to read a little more about it go to the AMD page on my website where you can also see the full PC Spec, which may have a bearing on the modem speed.

Bye

Consider a USR 56k Faxmodem external, model number 5686-03. Looks kinda cheap on the outside but it always connects at 52k or better here. Current major brand name internals on the same line only do 45.3 on average, 49.3 once in a while.
