Hi,

Looking at purchasing a DVD/VCR combo player, and want any info/experience you may have with them, esp. NEC NDT-40 model.

Advantages:
- One player (less room)
- No macrovision when copying DVDs
- Can tape on VCR while watching DVD
- Some are already multi-region (NEC is one)

Disadvantages:
- Quality of VCR and or DVD?
- Fewer features?
- If one component breaks, have to replace whole thing...

any comments?

regards,
Mhoram

G'day

Are you sure about the absence of Macrovision?

Another disadvantage is price, what is the cost of two items? Maybe $100~$120 for a DVD player and $150~$180 for a VCR.

I've heard of a few disaster strories on the newsgroups, check http://groups.google.com.au/groups?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&group=aus or look in the EYO gateway for more info.

I guess ultimately if you want it, get it, just don't regret the purchase later.

Thanks rb.

After reading your response and doing some further research, I tend to agree with you, and am now looking at the Pioneer DV-466, and maybe hang on to the old VCR for a while.
