Hello everyone. This is my system:

* Omni 2100 DVD player
* Sherwood 6090 A/V receiver (65Wx5 @ 20-20Khz)
* JBL SC135 speakers (5x80W satellite spkrs + 1x100W subwfr)

My problem is this....there has been occasions where the sound fluctuates/flutters/uneven/fading while watching DVD. It seems to happen only when there is a sustained loud scene (ie The Mummy scene where gunfights are happening). It does not happen in normal "non-loud" scenes. My DVD is connected to the A/V receiver via the digital co-ax cable (75ohms). Using the optical cable, it gets much worse. The funny thing is that sometimes I would watch the same DVD scene but NOT get the sound problem at all! Oh and I hve the volume setting on the receiver at less than halfway & never beyond. This problem has never happened when I play CDs or MP3s.

I know this is quite difficult to say, but would this be a DVD problem or an A/V receiver problem?

Any help is appreciated.

Rgds
Roger.

Sounds like your DVD player.....is there any way you can connect some other device to the DVD input on your amp?

Do you say, have another CD player with optical out?

Or, could you take your player and connect it to someone elses amp?

The trick is to try to work out which part is faulty by process of elimination.

Good luck!:)

If you are listening to the DTS or Dolby Digital soundtracks on the DVD, then it sounds like the DTS or DD decoder in the Receiver may be faulty, or the output from the DVD player is erratic. You say the PCM soundtrack from CD's is decoded fine, so I wouldn't think it would be the cable or amps. I would try another DVD player connected to the same input on your A/V Receiver & see how it goes decoding DD or DTS (whatever gives the problem). If OK, then take your DVD player back. I had a similar problem with a LD player AC3 RF output that was too low for my Yamaha RXV-992 to lock onto. It kept swithching from AC3 to Pro-Logic. I have since increased the gain in the RF Demodulator, and now have no more problems.

Many thanks for the help guys! i've now found out it is the DVD player that is the offending equipment. i managed to borrow a 2nd player & it played fine on my system. what a relief when i found out the warranty expires on the 16th Dec!!!!
