It figures: they would rather have petrol stolen than people to stop
entering the shop and STOP BUYING their overpriced merchandise.

--

Oil companies have rebuffed the pressure from the State Government to
introduce pre-paid systems at the petrol bowser, the NSW Minister for Police
Mr David Campbell said.

That's their prerogative and has no negative effect on the consumer.

Fucking thank Christ for that.
I wasn't even aware the govt were pushing for such a scheme... fucking
CUNTS. No doubt they had motives other than to stop some fuel thefts.
Fucking CUNTS!

Can you tell that pisses me off?

Prepay sucks anyway. Fee for service is the norm everyone else lives
by (I don't know anyone who gets paid their wages in advance)!

Pay at an exit gate would be vastly better (and preferably one where
you wouldn't need to get out of the car). It works fine for car parks
where the transactions are much smaller, so why not servos?

If they want you in their shop they could always offer a discount
voucher redeemable at the exit gate.

No doubt the Minister for Police is a dickhead, along with the rest of
his Government. :)

Any process which would remove precious police resources chasing after
petrol thieves would be good.

It is a reaction to the situation where precious police resources are wasted
chasing petrol thieves.

Went in to fillup on Sunday. Almost enpty and wanted to fill right up
but didn't know how much it wold take. Put the nozzle in the tank,
nothing worked. then I noticed the pre-pay sign. A number of places have
them but you give the guy in the office a wave and they switch the power on.

This one didn't.

Put the nozzle back on the pump and drove down the road to the next one
which didn't say pre-pay.

Hmmm - we have a problem here:-/

Fee for service is defo on the way out. Pioneers of course are the Yankee
so-called fast food operators. No way do you get that food before you pay.
Exceptions?
Well, Subway - but tehy actually try to be different. Fuck knows why...

The end game is to get you to buy 'sight unseen'.
I think we've touched on the massive difference between mail-order
acceptance differences between here and YankeeLand.

They WILL regret their stupid trust in their business people.
So will we. Once we're trained to trust the bandits, that is.

My sentiments exactly. I don't know of any AU laws it might cross in
this regard as it is not *exactly* price fixing - but must be getting
close. I wonder how it would test in the US under their anti-trust laws?

Be nice if it didn't pass our laws either, but could we be so lucky!

The current grocery discount vouchers also suck... since the discounts
are almost certainly factored into the retail price of either the
groceries or the petrol, if not both.

Do the old coupon laws still apply in SA does anyone know? If so I
can't see why they wouldn't also apply to petrol discount vouchers.

When was a kid the ruse was to have tokens, coupons, or whatever they
might be called, which got you a freebie or a discount further down
the line. All designed to entice you to buy the cornflakes (or
whatever) that had the coupon on the the back, or the token among the
cornflakes (the latter was particularly insidious as it encouraged
kids to dispose of the cornflakes to get at the token).

It was illegal in SA back when I lived there, but not in any of the
other states AFAIK.
