My dvd recorder just gave up the ghost and I want to look at other ways I
can record off foxtel/tv.I was thinking of a dvd recorder with 160gb hard
drive but then stumbled across this
http://www.shoppingsquare.com.au/p_2571_51_Channel_400GB_Hard_Drive_Media_Player

What is the go with these 'media players',do you just plug it in and play/
record like a dvd recorder? Or are there many and expensive things I need
to buy first?

Thanks:)

Devices like this are usually designed for playback only. They do not have
the ability to record. So they are just like a large jukebox and video
player.

Some do like the dvico which are not only a jukebox but a pvr where it
will record in hd and play all the codecs.
