Here's a simple question for anybody who believes that the torques in
both axles of an open differential are *always* equal:

What causes the angular acceleration of the pinion (spider) gears in an
open differential?

For those who can't work out what I'm asking, angular acceleration is a
change in rotational speed, and I'm asking what changes the rotational
speed of the pinion gears inside the differential assembly on their
shaft. This question has nothing to do with the crownwheel and pinion.

The answer is something that every mechanical engineer should have
learnt in about 2nd year at uni. It is a dynamic question, which cannot
be solved using 1st year statics.

I'm a Libran Engineer. I don't argue, I discuss.

Force!

WoooHooo, look at taht, and I didn't need to scour my old notes to
find some obscure question posed by a lecturer in a vain attempt to
show how smart I am......

Athol...ask your wife for a cuddle.

Shit Andy, you could have changed the Subject.

You can use it to pin Michael C's arse to the wall, thanks. :-)

I'm interested to note that Sheik managed to get the correct answer,
so he has a better understanding of this than Michael C. :-)

Clearly.

In that case, I'd fucking *hate* to see Michael remove a gearbox :)
