Local Dam is 100% +
(Q) Can we wash our vehicles with town water?
As predicted Hinze dam (our local supply) is now wasting water, pouring
over the spillway, shown on last nights TV news.
What a miserable joke on all of us. Save every drop?!?!
Our GCCC Mayor has feebly proposed to the evil water overlords (Qld Water
Commission) we be exempt from restrictions, well no, apparently just
lowered to level 2 or 3. Considering that the dam went from 58% to 100% +
in a of couple of weeks, what if another period of heavy rain, major
flooding next?
IIRC The acting premier words were to the effect that the level 6
restrictions wouldn't be lifted unless dam overflow posed a safety issue.
Can we now wash our cars and bikes with town water and a hose?
(A) Probably not, in fact I wouldn't be surprised even now that if you
used a hose (or buckets) to wash your car, you would get a hefty $$ fine,
even though you are using water that would presently be wasted.
Is this the ultimate in intergovernmental bureaucratic bullshit????
Sorry about the *BIG words. Stay tuned!
Looking out, it's occasional light rain today. Yesterday was mostly fine.

How much water was in the dam before the 1 in 50 year storms?

Seems like anyone with common sense would relax water restrictions but
then its controlled by a politician so there goes that argument:-)
I have 3 240lt wheelie bins full of rainwater that I use for car
washing, I bought some plastic "tank fitting" from Bunnings that allow
me to connect a high pressure cleaner to them, washing the car usually
uses about 60lts.

Lots more than we had in the dam before the 1 in 1000 year storms a
couple of years back. It went from 28% to over 80% that time.. and
strangely before event that you could wash your car.
gotta go, back tonight.

Scammed again.
I probably shouldn't mention it - BUT - water restrictions are close as
dammit to a Tax.
And they Will Not Be Removed by advantage taking GovCo - there's just too
much money to be made by the advantage taking GovCo Toadies.
Their Mad Turd Regenerating scheme is already Late and Over-Budget and
it's early days yet.

A study done on silt levels in old coral reefs (more silt in the old
coral, the more rain that year) showed that the last 200 years have been
about the BEST in the last couple of thousand weather wise.
NORMAL for northern Australia is 30 to 50 year droughts followed by 10
straight years of floods.

I hope that they programmed their model to take into account the
changed silt loads that resulted from the ripping out of millions of
trees to make way for sugar cane and dairy farms over the last 200
years.

Warming up quite nicely.

That correlates fairly well with my personal recollection.
I've been here since 1968.
btw: Next solar cycle appears to have started. Should have an
indication of the cycle's maximum intensity by May.

Well 10 and 6 metres is working quite well these days so the falres
