Shame. The model, colour, and wheels are spot on one of my fave Mercs
(with the 6.3 V8 though) ;-)

It's quite possible , there are cars running some amazing air suspension
including a local Fairlane which bunny hops .

I can't see how a car that can be lowered all the way to the ground can
be legal when min ground clearance is something like 100mm or more.

Not possible to be legal.
The system must automatically maintain legal height and attitude and
there are a number of other mandatory requirements. The "ten position
switch box" makes it fail...
Some of the complying systems have a computer that can have a few
different ride heights selected and one that I've come across have a
diagnostic port into which a playstation controller can be plugged.
With the controller plugged in, the vehicle is defective but with it
unplugged, the system returns to automatic and is legal...

Looking at something along those lines for the XP.

The hydraulic self-leveling (SL) in all old Mercs can be troublesome
if your trying to maintain them as the factory intended, but it's very
easy to junk the SL and choose a fixed height. Very few left on the
road are as standard, and SL isn't really needed if it's a sedan or
coupe and you're not towing big stuff.
BTW the old W123 280TE I bought for the au pair last year to take
around Australia is back in Melbourne after traveling Syd-Mel-Adel.-
Perth-Alice-FNQ-Bris-Syd-Mel!!! Over 25,000 kms, 2 new tyres were all
that it required the whole time. This too had the SL disconnected and
it was set to ride quite high compared to standard. I'm thinking of
buying it back off her before she returns to Germany ;-)
