Mena Suvari (American Beauty), Marla Sokoloff (Dude, Where's My Car?), Melissa George (Mulholland Drive) and hearthrob, James Marsden (X-Men) star in the criminal comedy that everybody's rooting for, Sugar and Spice.

AUDIO/VISUAL

Sugar & Spice has two audio tracks. DD 5.1 or Dolby 2.0.
The DD 5.1 track sounds great! The audio is mixed well through all speakers.
The front sound stage is strong with speech being clear, easy to understand and in sync at all times.
The rears provide plenty of subtle background sounds and they occasionally do come to life in places such as the crowd and cheering scenes.
The music thumps along nicely and really stands out in this movie.
Sugar and Spice has an energetic soundtrack with some superb music from Spiderbait, Garry Glitter, The Dandy Warhols and Republica.

The movie is shown in 2.35:1 and is 16:9 enhanced.
The picture quality of the DVD is very nice indeed.
The picture is very clear and sharp and there are no real signs of grain, marks or blemishes.
Colours look great and are very rich and bright. Blacks are spot on as is the shadow detail.
It's a very clean and pleasant looking picture overall, which should be expected from a very recent release movie.

Deleted Scenes- There are 4 on offer here, but 2 of them are basically slightly extended versions of what you see in the movie. All 4 of them look like finished pieces of the movie that have been removed and are in widescreen with Dolby 2.0 sound.

OVERALL

Hmmm....A movie about pretty young cheerleaders who want to rob a bank.
Leave your coat and brain at the door before sitting down to enjoy this one folks.
Sugar & Spice is an interesting, but immature movie that has a running time of only 78 minutes which is maybe just long enough for the attention span of the 15 year olds who this should appeal to.
The performances by all involved are maybe a little over the top, but this suits the movie very well and actually helps it from going any further downhill than it already is.
I guess you can see that I didn't particularly enjoy this movie that much.
It was all a bit too silly for me but I have to admit that I couldn't stop watching it til the end. (and the girls in cheerleading outfits had nothing to do with it! heh, heh, heh)
I watched it with the wife, who thought it was a good bit of light hearted fun and would easily watch it again if given the chance.
The music was the highlight for me and I'll be having a bit of a look around for the soundtrack.
As for the DVD itself.
Well, the audio/visuals are pretty spot on and Roadshow Entertainment have provided us with another quality transfer. The music really does suit the movie and sounds pretty damn good.
The extras are a bit light on though, and don't take much time get through at all.
This one definitely fits into the rent first category, but some people (such as my wife) will enjoy it enough to own on DVD.
