odds are the warranty won't cover misuse. warranty usually only covers manufacturing defects.

If you get another laptop, just keep the broken one take both to your local computer shop. They'll be able to set up a network connection between the two and transfer everything you want trandfered over.

Alternatively , you can ghetto the thing and get a new keyboard and screen (external). screens can be brought for ~$200 and keyboards are as cheap as chips.

or you could hunt ebay for the laptop parts and get someone to install it for you.

if you end up buying another one (often cheaper) then you could buy a cheap USB hard drive enclosure and put the hard drive out of the old laptop into it so you can copy your files off it, something like this would do the job http://www.eyo.com.au/prod_E-AS-HD-201A_proddesc_Enclosure_for_2.5_PATA_HDD_ASTONE_Al uminium_HD-201A.html

A new screen to replace the laptops one isn't happening. Unless you can harvest another laptop of the same make and ~model. Even if you could find someone who would sell you one (the laptop screen) it's cost heaps to get it, and to get it installed (might as well buy anther laptop in that case)

A keyboard (http://www.eyo.com.au/prod_KM-BAO-KBUSB_proddesc_Laser_Slim_Line104_Keyboard_Black_C olor_USB_interface.html) would cost ~$11

The parts need to be shipped in from china, and that doesn't happen... in a day.

If you want your warranty to continue, you have to go through the proper warranty mechanism. (and pay heaps of money).

Anyone who claims they can repair it, (and owns a company who's purpose is to repair laptops) will be able to source the parts and repair it. Its a simple enough job, its just expensive as hell.

LMC (http://www.lmc.com.au/products/Notebook_Computers/Toshiba/564536/Toshiba_Notebook_Satellite_Pro_M200_%5BPSMC4A-00C001%5D_Intel_C2D_T5450_1.67GHz/1Gb/80Gb/14.1%5C%22WXGA/VBusiness) sell your laptop for $1099. But it seems the laptop is discontinued.

You don't need the same laptop, just buy another cheap one. budget laptops are 'a dime a dozen'. (WTF does that mean anyway?)

Get a mac. You can treat them like sh*t and they keep coming back. and its simple as to use. You seem like you only use your computer for the internet email and word processing, why bother with a buisness computer (what a windows computer is), when all you want is a social PC (what a mac is).

just write down a list that contains
At least 100gb hard drive
at least 2gb memory
DVD burner
at least 2 core CPU

and add any additional feature you want in your laptop (like a webcam) and go to DSE, harvy norman, JB-HIFI, office works... whoever and ask for the cheapest one that has all the stuff on your list.

Don't but a laptop with XP on it. Its a scam. Don't let them up-sell you. its also a scam. Don't buy based on 'appearance' (shinyness or glitteryness). laptops that need glitter generally need it for a reason.

Broken screen + broken keyboard doesn't mean broken computer. Your information is recoverable even if you throw the thing in the ocean.

Whack the b key really hard, that should stop it from sticking.

yep did that, funny how when i press on it , it wont come up.. yet sometimes when im randomly typing it somehow sticks/.

Anywho, een to Harvey Norman, said its not worth it to get it fxed, literally laughed at me.. despite me saying the dvd uners is not roken to to neglect, y looking at the state of this thing tho i can see why they laughed at me..

All they said was to purchase a new one and tried to sell me the M300 for $1200 or to "rent" one of them so if something like this happens they have to fix it..

Did you ask them for the cheapest one with the stuff you want?

Toshiba is punted by those sales clerks a lot, obviously because they yeild a higher commission. Don't bother with toshiba's (not a hard and fast rule, just a general thing). They're crap. acer make a decent laptop, and they don't skrew with you by saying ("you can pay $x for a recovery CD that you have to get shipped in from china in the event our crappy install craps out on you)

$1,200 is an average price or a laptop, but there are far cheaper ones.

Finding a top notch laptop takes hours of internet surfing, and i'm just not willing to do that.

http://www.dse.com.au/cgi-bin/dse.storefront/489fa87a03ea28602742c0a87f9c0724/Product/View/XC4765

The acer gemstone is a well regarded line, this particular notebook has everything you'd want in a laptop. Its duel core, 2gb memory, 160gb hard drive, its got a webcam, all that, its $898 ($749 after cash back, it actually works, so i'd earge you to, if you get it, to apply for the $149 refund)

Officeworks have a similar one that is cheaper (exactly $749... online only)

Having a look around, in the 'ultra budget' price range, that laptop seems to offer the most features at the lowest cost. i would have offered more, but officefworks, DSE, EYO, LMC and Scorptec don't offer a better one for that price.

Don't rent! its a scam. You pay like 150% the price of the laptop, and at the end of it, you don't technically own the thing unless you pay a fee.

If you didn't drop it or abuse it, I'm sure you have a claim on your warranty
IS there any damage to the exterior where it could of taken a hit.
I personally would be going back to HN and put in an insurance claim,
you've got nothing to lose and all to gain, remember the laptop has to be of merchantable Quality if it failed because it wasn't assembled correctly you might have a case .

no chance with a broken LCD panel unfortunately, the staff will laugh you out of the store if you try it on
