Ignorant Needs Help!

Hoping someone can help me - I have searched on the internet for this and can't seem to find a clear answer. Having said that, I'm not too sure about all the proper technology names involved either.

My "old - school" parents have just built a new house. Although agreeing to some things being installed - they have no idea (or really don't care) what they are - as long as they know what it does and how to work it.

I have worked out that they have a PDR, and they are enjoying recording free to air T.V.

I have just convinced them to get Foxtel, which they are eagerly waiting to be installed. However, I'm wondering if there is some kind of way that they can record Foxtel onto their original PDR instead of using Foxtel IQ??

Sorry if I have incorrectly named anything. Any replies appreciated.

I have Austar which is basically the same thing as Foxtel and I always record it onto my Panasonic PVR.

I just have the usual satellite decoder and it runs into the AV-In inputs on the PVR and you just switch over to AV2 or AV4 and record it as you like.

The only trouble you would ever run into is if you record pay per view movies on channel 120, they have macrovision protection and sometimes will not record quite right. This is rare though for me.

With what I've heard about the IQ and it's annoyances and bugs, I wouldn's like to have one just yet. I like my PVR setup the way it is for now.
