Hi
I have just read in WHAT DVD magazine
that warner Bros is planning to release
its back catalogue of DVDs in Australia
as NTSC format.
does anyone have any more info regarding
this?? and what titles do they have planned
for release? cheers, marty

It doesn't sound right. I doubt very much is WB will do this seeing as australia is PAL format.
It wouldn't be very cost effective seeing as more that half of australians that CAN play ntsc dvds don't worry about it, and even then, why not just get them on Region 1 anyway.

It is definetly right. It's causing abit of a stink too, because as you say Australia is a PAL market.
You can argue that Warners are doing this to save on PAL remastering costs. Warners argue, they can release titles quicker using NTSC, rather than waiting for each title to be properly remastered into PAL.
Goonies is an example of a new Warners release using NTSC.
I think this sets a really bad precedent !!! I have heap of R1 disks, and dont have a real issue with NTSC. But alot of people do, as (technically) PAL provides a superior picture.
But on principle, I believe distributors should be forced to comply with local standards, thats why we have them in the 1st place !
