DVDsoon, hands down. Best prices around, plus free shipping. On top of
that, their free shipping is remarkably fast (4 to 7 days). DVDPacific
gets good reviews here as well, but personally I'm not pleased with
them, shipping times are around 16 days for me with non-free airmail.

After careful thought I've decided to make a list of advantages and
disadvantages for both e-tailers from users' comments. I've tried to
stay neutral and stated the pros and cons of both e-tailers.

Let's look at the advantages and disadvantages of both e-tailers:

DVD SOON

Advantages

* Free shipping
* Cheap prices
* Usually very fast shipping

Disadvantages

* Can take ages to get goods restocked and dispatched
* R1 disc can have French cover design / writing
* Title of goods displayed on packaging when shipping
* Slow email / customer service response usually

DVD PACIFIC

Advantages

* Reasonably priced shipping
* Relatively quick shipping (Priority Air Mail usually takes 1 week
exactly to reach most people)
* Emails usually responded to in minutes
* Helpful prompt customer service (nothing ever seems too much
trouble)
* Quick at getting stock in

Disadvantages

* Not very good product detail specifications on some discs
* Additional charges for disc sets
* No insurance option

If anyone would like to do their own list, I'd be happy to see, and so
would others..

Depends what you're after also - dvdpacific.com can work out cheaper even
with postage added.
for example (in Australian Dollars)...

Brazil (Criterion Collection) 3 DVD Set
DVDSoon = $71.40
DVDPacific = $58.06 + Shipping ($6.97 + $1.38 per disc ($4.14)) = all up is
$69.17

and don't forget that the $6.97 part of the shipping covers 9 to 12 items in
one shipment (depending on dvd case size of course). So any other dvds
ordered at the same time only adds $1.38 per disc to the shipping cost. It
is also not the cheapest shipping option in this example, but choosing this
option (the middle priced one) usually takes a week to arrive.

Dune Miniseries Director's Cut (3 DVDs)
DVDSoon = $34.08
DVDPacific = $18.33 + $6.97 + $1.38x3 = $29.44

If you bought both together the totals would be...
DVDSoon = $105.48
DVDPacific = $91.64 (or $87.45 with the cheaper but slower shipping option)

But then...
Alien Quadrilogy (9 DVDs)
DVDSoon = $95.86
DVDPacific = $98.46 + $6.97 + $1.38x9 = $117.85

From just quickly looking around a second ago, new releases seem to be
cheaper at dvdsoon, whereas older releases seem to be cheaper at dvdpacific.
Though I could be wrong.

The free shipping at DVDSoon ends in a month too (Dec 31st), anyone know
what the shipping prices are like when not free?

DVDPacific shipping is very good if buying a few dvds at one time.

Personally, I started using DVDPacific because they have an Australian bank
account for direct deposit (I don't have a credit card) and it worked out
the cheapest for what I wanted (dvdsoon didn't have some of what I wanted
anyway) which is usually special edition releases/box sets/or not very
popular movies which wont be released in Australia.

Criterion discs are invariably cheaper from US stores.

DeepDiscountDVD = US$43.16 with 20% coupon(check dvdtalk.com) is US$34.52 +
US$8.95 for shipping = US$43.47, so roughly $60 Australian delivered.

Not documented anywhere on there site- you have to email them and ask
about the DD setup.

Just remember though if something goes wrong, you can't dispute the
transaction with your bank if you've done a direct deposit. Those fees
provide some insurance if things go pear shaped.

Yes, but it is a good service for people who don't have a credit card,
and who want to purchase dvd's from Overseas(I believe DVDPacific are
the only mob who offer this service- Direct Deposit at National Aust
Banks).
