I left my Foxtel box on FOX 8 this morning, I went out and when I came back it said that the signal is scrambled. How long is the upgrade for?

some ST20 boxes have problems, go to the menu, 'restore factory settings',
this should fix, if not call your provider....

I don't want to sound pedantic, but that was actually 7:40 pm EST or
8:40 pm EDT.
I find it annoying the way TV1 in particular keep saying all through
summer that a certain programme is on at a given time EST when they mean
daylight savings time, not eastern standard time. Some companies do
it on their websites. The ANZ bank is one in particular which does.
When I questioned them over it, they told me EST stands for Eastern
Standard Time during the winter and Eastern Summer Time during the
summer. :-)
Was the software upgrade just a Foxtel upgrade, or did it apply to
Austar as well?

Yes it does - both are widely used ['correct' or not]. IMHO the 'more'
correct is EDST

Your opinion is wrong. EDST is a US acronym.
The terms "Eastern Standard Time" and "Eastern Summer Time" are widely used
but the correct, and MORE widely used, acronyms are:
EST - Eastern Standard Time and EDT - Eastern Daylight Time.
In fact both often have A (for Australian) added to the beginning to avoid
confusion with other countries becoming AEST (Australian Eastern Standard
Time) and AEDT (Australian Eastern Daylight Time) respectively.
EDST is generally only used by people who think "Km" and "lt" are valid
abbreviations and who say ATM machine or 4AM in the morning.

No it isn't. km is the abbreviation for kilometre. The k is always lower
case.
