Does anyone know of any stores in Melbourne or east to south-eastern
suburbs where I could see an Infocus X1 in action ?

You can get a demo from Encel either in Doncaster or Richmond I imagine.
Just don't buy from them.
The magnificent Kwyjibo.

Thanks for the responses guys.
Just one other question. Are these still the best overall budget-priced
projector around? I'm planning on putting it in a fairly dark (but not
fully light controlled) room. 1 dark brick wall with the other 3 walls and
ceiling in dark timber. Mid-grey carpet. There are 2 windows that don't let
a lot of light in due to surrounding trees and do not shine anywhere near
the proposed screen area.
As I said, the room is pretty dark but not completely black. The projector
can be ceiling mounted anywhere from 4-7 metres from the screen. I'm
looking at an approx 2.5m wide screen.
Would the X1 do the trick ?

My completely ill-informed, unjustified and unsubstantiated opinion is
"perhaps". I'm very interested in both budget Benqs, the 6100 and the
2120, both of which are SVGA DLP units like the X1. I know the 2120
is availble in Oz at www.penhometheatre.com.au for around X1 price.

I have a Sony 10HT in a room that has a fair amount of light and displaying a
3m diagonal image and there is no problems whatsoever viewing the image.
I am not up on the specs of the X1 but would guess it is better than the 10HT.

Their claim that the 2120 is "Much brighter" than the X1 is interseting,
given that the X1 has 1100 lumens and the 2120 is only 100 higher with
identical contrast.
I wouldn't have thought it would have been all that noticeable.
The 4000 hour globe life on the Infocus is a definite plus though.
