Hi guys,
You can find our in-depth comparison of both the US Region 1 and UK Region 2
9-disc Alien Quadrilogy sets here:

It looks as if the Region 1 beats the UK offering hands down.

Pretty comprehensive, but I'd hardly say from it R1 wins hands down. The
omissions are some minor stuff I'd never want to see anyhow. I'd take PAL
any day...

The fact that the R1 has commentaries for the extended / alternate versions
of the third and fourth installments, where the R2 doesnt't was the deal
breaker for me.

Fair enough. I guess the review wasnt too clear on what that meant - are
their alternate commentary streams, or is the shorter of the two film
versions just get commentary with bits sliced out in R1? If the latter, I'd
take the pal still.

Anyone know if the R4 version will be the same as either of these?

The R1 has commentaries on all the extended versions; the R4 only has
commentary on the theatrical versions (except for Aliens, which is
available only on the extended cut). The R4 is missing 6 mins from each
of Alien and Alien Resurrection and around 30 minutes from Alien 3, but
given Fincher doesn't participate in that commentary, I could care less.
The packaging on the R4 version is superior and the R1 DTS tracks lock
up on some players, so I'm going for the R4. It helps that I prefer
documentaries to commentaries anyway.
