View Full Version : Eclipse Cleaning kit and pec pads in Sydney
Hi,
I was just wondering if anyone knows where you can get these pec pads
and eclipse cleaning fluid in Sydney?
I have heard you get get some from nulabs in Melbourne but am hoping
that I can track some of these up north.
Anyway I have included a link to the product from B&H, if anyone has
any ideas, it'll be greatly appreciated
thanks all!!

And why would you need those?
In accordance with "AU Digital Photo Of The Day" you don't need them -
just a blower brush. :)
Can get them from other stores in US who repackage. Much cheaper.

Sorry Russell
That should have been a can of fresh air.
I just blow it off with non-residue canned air. I have never needed
to swab my sensor or send the camera in for cleaning.

I did not have any joy by blowing off the sensor with air - that was a
few times the lumps of dirt still floated around. My only success was
with the sensor swabs - used them only once and I have not had any dirt
on the sensor since.
Whether the sensor had a film over it that attracted the dirt and is now
clean - I think this may have been the case.
My recommendation to anyone who wants swabs is to order the Eclipse
fluid only which comes with 10 sealed wipes material and construct your
own swabs in a clean environment. There is a site that has more
construction details - its not difficult. You must order the fluid to
use with the swabs anyway. Why anyone would want a pack of 12 swabs at
the Australian or even B&H price beats me.
It cost me $34 for 3 swabs and the fluid.

got mine from nulab in melbourne. overpriced but still worth it- the results
are absolutely phenomenal. see my before and after shots on canon slr talk
forum on dpreview (will have to search)
I have heard many reports of ppl using compressed air and getting blobs of
residue from the can on the sensor (yes even supposedly "clean" air), and
also stirring up a lot more dust too.
whereas sensor swabbing is fast, easy, relatively cheap and extremely
effective.

As I have heard horror stories of scatched AA filters from the swabbing.
Basically both styles work well as long as you don't have a nut behind the
wheel. :-)
I am also finding the air blower to be ineffective, although I haven't
tried the compressed air.
I did find that site you mentioned and that's why I am looking down
this approach. For other ppl who are interested I just rang nulab in
Melbourne and got some prices:
Eclipse 2oz Fluid $22 (AUD)
Pec*Pads 4*4" * 100 $19.25 (AUD)
Freight $10.00
Considering the currency situation at the moment, it works out to be
the around the same if I order it from Adorama with postage and
handling.

There should be 10 PEC PADS 100x100mm included with the fluid. And I
think you will find them sufficient to start with. This will make at
least 40 swabs. The fluid will last heaps as well.

That looks better :) mine was older but the idea of constructing your
own appealed as the costs became expensive. I think the swabs must be
hand made with personal initials from nulab.

nope, 10 pec pads = 10 swabs. do ***NOT*** cut the large sheets into smaller
ones, you are completely defeating the purpose of having surgical/cleanroom
grade wipes by fraying the edges and introducing particle contaminants.

scroll down the page on that URL and you will see 2 images from my 10D of
before-and-after sensor cleaning. this clearly demonstrates this method's
efficiacy...

Even if you dont there is still enough wipes for 10 swabs.
