View Full Version : Links to learn smartcard programming

G'day everyone
I am interested in the programming hardware and software involved in smartcards. I am certainly not an IT genius however I know my way around PC's enough to repair most problems or research the problems I cause :PI
I am not interested at all in doing it for profit etc, purely as a personal challenge.
I have found a few links on the web that are quite good. Any chance of you more learned people pointing me towards some links/books that may help.
Thanks a lot
Barney

if you read about the chuckies and red cards, you will find that they
haven't been cracked yet, and everyone entitled to a satellite service will
be receiving these cards. as soon as circulation is complete, they will
switch off the old service, cutting off all the pirate cards out there
leaving just a legit service on air. it should happen by march/April as far
as I have read in these groups.

Yeah I have been reading up for the last month. I am sure that someone will be able to get around the red card however I need to crawl before I walk. At the moment I am just interested in learning how the wafer cards are done, unless the red cards are totally different technology and worth researching by themselves.
Thanks

Won't be long. The majority of people I know arent using foxtels equipment
anyway. They have bought their own decoder boxes and dishes and use gold
cards to get ALL the services.

No barney, go for it mate, You need to research and solve the problem of
reading the HMK from an Irdeto 2 V4 card, if you do that old mate, you'll
beat the Germans!!!!
There's a guy that posts here that knows quite a bit about it, he'll
probably post below shortly!!
But realistically, not a good time to learn really, but a good time to 'keep
in the loop' and see whats goin on!

wafers are old tek, I had one and I never figured out how to do any more
than update the crd files, if you want to do golds and silvers, they're
easier and current for a little while more, but the price of getting hold of
pic programmers and pic cards are too high for the time involved, I mean you
might get 3 months out of a card but that costs more than 3 months hire to
set up. but if you get hold of second hand gear through the forums you might
be in luck. have you been to www.austech.info ?

Thats a very good question. I know of a bloke who spent a lot of time, effort and $$$ programming a gold card, getting a Humax 2 card box, and a dish setup only 2 months ago. Needless to say he is now chewing his fingernails to the bone that the upgrade is going to mean he will only be watching freebies. Of course, that is the risk he took from the start. I certainly wouldn't do go to such expense. I am happy to pay for Foxtel I just wanna learn how to 'beat the system'

I really think that you guys that have goldies etc, and only have purchased
them from some one, and have no interest in the actual workings of the
system, will be buggered......the system is changing NOW, your average Jo
Blow down the pub will have no answers for you when your card dies.
It will take real programmers, code freaks and loggers to get around
this.....
The rest of you guys got something for nothing for a while......and time is
up...(and please don't keep snipping this for the next month or two because
your gold card still has pictures....when V4 is fully implemented, it will
happen)

Gold cards and silver cards will die when the data to the old version cards
stops. No matter what decoder or card you have you will get a black screen.
You will need a sub card.
The Europeans have not cracked the version 4 cards in 2 years so I don't
think it will happen here.

They also have to hack NDS, which will be operating Foxtel's new digital
interactive platform from early next year (although Austar will stay on
Irdeto v4). Foxtel will only be using Irdeto encryption for its current
channel line-up.

Simmo is right, we will be stuffed when it changes over. I have no sympathy for blokes who bought the cards at the pub etc because as you say, they got cheap deal and should be happy they were able to do so for a while.
I still would like to research and learn code and programming, even if I have to enrol in an IT course, as I am interested in it.
Thanks

If I am reading you right and you have not programmed computers at ALL
before now I would say you have BUCKLEYS chance of even understanding
the entry level concepts of the new smartcards any time soon.
It will take you years to become even a half decent computer
programmer.

then join austech.info and read the satellite forums, talk to mods and ops,
find users who have lots of posts and actually contribute to discussion, and
the talk to them. they are very helpful and are there for this reason.
