Telstra have the same thing with your phone, buy your own phone and if it
packs it is, then you pay for it, and Telstra own Foxtel, so I can't see why
they can't implement the same principles

Absolutely... I just don't think Foxtel should provide support in that case.

Yes but in that case, Telstra owns the infrastructure (the lines, etc)
Telstra does not own the satellite.

Do you really think the hardware isn't part of Telstra's costs?

I'm only guessing here, but doesn't Optus own the satellite, which
Foxtel uses? So Foxtel is likely buying the usage of Optus' satellite.
So the hardware in not part of Telstra's costs, as it isn't theirs, they
merely pay to use it, (and probably have a set of conditions to follow
as set out by Optus.)
The main point is, Foxtel have used 3rd party infrastructure to modify
privately owned Satellite STBs without authorisation(the Aurora users').
Surely the same legislation that prevents hackers modifying data on
other people's computers could also apply here.

Optus is planning to make/launch D1/D2 sats soon, after C1 was really
popular and B1 is being discontinued.
Why cant telstra develop their own, only $100m+ and $40m launch costs,
hardly anything for them... instead the invest billions in HK, ziggy
has been taking too much coke.

I'm not sure but i think the Commonwealth Bank used to own B3, so i'm not
sure if they own C1 as well ?
I will stand corrected if wrong.
Wayne.

Yeah, good ole Ziggy. I remember when he was awarded the businessman of
the year award a few years back. I was selling the Optus Choices packages at
the time. All Optus phone line rentals were free as was installation. I read
in the paper one morning that he, Ziggy, said "We have been experiencing a
dropoff in local phone customers and don't know what the cause of this is
yet". LOL. Telstra had record profits though - due to major diminishing of
maintainance spending accompanied, of course, by massive complaints due to
faulty service! JOKE.
