View Full Version : Suggestion to Foxtel

This has probably been suggested before so please forgive me as I am new here.
Rather than their packages, why doesn't Foxtel have a flat rate charge of around $2.00 per channel but allow only a minimum of 20 channels per customer. This means you would only have to purchase the channels you wanted and give them a better idea of what people want.
Also how about an anime channel and a sci-fi channel?

Because some of the contracts they have with the channel provider is
subject to the channel being offered in the basic package. So they
have to have a basic package

with the new digital STBs they will know exactly, what youre preferences are
(if you allow them to hook you up interactively). Every press of your
buttons will be recorded with their OpenTV Core 1.1 (set-top box
middleware), and you will be automatically targeted for personalised
advertising, first in the channel-list menu in form of banner ads, then
everywhere else, depending on how much resistance and whinging is fed back.
Foxtel bought the same software as BSkyB in the UK is running, so everything
here will be developing very similiarly along those lines. If you have a
relative/friend over there, ask him/her for the pros and cons.

http://www.theage.com.au/articles/2003/07/02/1056825450063.html
and from :"http://www.itvt.com/jamesackerman03.html" this:
Foxtel will deploy OpenTV Core 1.1 (set-top box middleware), OpenTV Streamer
(real-time carouselling technology), OpenTV PVR Extension (supports the
deployment of DVR's on a network), OpenTV Account (ewallet software that
supports tcommerce, self-provisioning, and direct- response TV), OpenTV
Publisher (enables development, maintenance, and broadcast of ITV apps),
OpenTV H20 (thin-client STB client-server solution), OpenTV Advertise
(manages, schedules, and broadcasts ITV ads) , OpenTV Gateway (enables
email, chat, and tcommerce transactions via the set-top box), and a number
of stand-alone content applications that enable multi-streaming and
news-on-demand. (Note: Foxtel also plans to use a number of technologies
from News Corp.- subsidiary, NDS, to support the new service: NDS will
supply Foxtel with its VideoGuard conditional access technology, its
iVideoGuard conditional access system for ITV, its StreamServer digital
broadcasting playout-management system, and its Value@TV ITV headend. NDS
will also work with Foxtel to develop an EPG for the service, and will act
as primary systems integrator for the introduction of new set-top boxes on
Foxtel's networks. In addition, Foxtel plans to begin deploying NDS's XTV
DVR platform, which is also the basis of the Sky+DVR, around a year after it
launches the new service.)

How can you justify paying $2 for a movie channel and then $2 for TVSN, or
how could Foxtel justify providing both channels for the same cost.
It cant work obviously.
TVSN argg! if I see another dimonesque segment I'm going to throw the TV. God damn, the only segments of any interest to me on that channel are the wired show occassionally, and perhaps some modelling stuff with miss mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmia. TVSN == 95% womans jewelry shows.

Name a pay television operator in the world which does this. I'm sure
you could earn a lot of money telling them how to run their businesses.

They'd never charge you for TVSN. My sister couldn't pay her Foxtel bill so
they cut it off, all except 1 channel. That's right, it was TVSN.
It was like "You pay your bill or we'll make you watch TVSN".

This kind of thing will never happen while FOXTEL are customer fed, and not
customer led
sucks shit IMHO
simple and practical idea though .... would encourage the whole ****ing
country to subscribe.....I live in a rural area and I can tell you ....
people do NOT like the available FTA programs - but as far as seeing a sea
of dishes as you look over the rooftops ....... hang lemme check ....... I
can see about 5 and I can see the entire township of around 600 houses
silly, silly FOXTEL
Video library is booming though of course....... and they are a rip!
go figure

I'd be hard pressed to name 10 channels that I wanted, let alone 20. I would
only want:-
Fox Sports 1 and 2
Fox 8
TV1
National Geo
Lifestyle
Discovery
History
ESPN
> Also how about an anime channel and a sci-fi channel?
I'd love those channels!

And it doesn't cross your mind for a moment that there is a reason that
they don't?

It may reduce to piracy problems among lower income earners. Some people may
not screw foxtel (through piracy) if Foxtel didn't screw the customer in the
first place. A happy customer will support something if it has customer
service in mind. DVDs & players sell very well, because they are so cheap in
comparison to Video Games and in the past Audio CDs, VHS tapes, Laser Disc
etc etc - and everyone's happy. Why did playstation (one) take over from the
far, far superior Nintendo 64, why is Gamecube not doing so well - because
it was easy to pirate the games on PS1, PS2, Xbox - because no-one can
afford $100 games all the time. Same deal with Foxtel. The customers always
right - unless money is involved ;-)
