Optus customer here. Just got my first dose of the X Files on the dumbed
down resolution. Something like a poor reproduction of a 1950s cheap home
movie - pathetic! Is this a joke. Scratch Fox 8.

I haven't noticed it either and I watch it on a $2,600 68cm flat-screen in
wide screen mode.

I am on Optus cable. Have an 80cm CRT. Was only bad when X Files was on.
Believe me, it won't matter what equiptment you have, you'll notice! It is
very poor.

In which case, you don't think it was the source material that X-files was
on and not the channel itself?

People, with Optus its a NODE by NODE thing.

Some people have reported that if the cable also has fibre (as in Fibre Optic on
one cable and Coaxil Cable next to it) placed with it, there is a compression
issue, Optus have known about that for years and is one of the main rasons why
those customers cant be connected to the Local Call network.

Also, since Optus have switched on supression sync encryption on 44 of their
channels, it has caused the Local Call and Pay TV signals to get corupted.

WHICH IS WHY FOX SPORTS TWO has been left alone.

other OPTUS channels will also be just left as colour inverted for the time
being.

As for when Optus will switch off the supression sync? They will probally do it
in March 2004, when they (FOXTEL) do the next BIG signal upgrade.

Doubtful. I saw another episode of X Files last night and it was fine. I
think they may have been experimenting. I reckon there was some relationship
to the bitrate reduction they were talking about in another thread relating
to fox 8 on satelite ie chopped and stretched images for widescreen.
