View Full Version : Foxtel On Old TV

I just signed up for foxtel, and ordered two boxes - one for each of the
tv's in the house. However, I've just realised that the older of the TV's
that is to be connected only has an antenna plug at the back.

My guess is that this is going to prohibit foxtel from being used on this
tv.

Would I be right? Thanks for any advice.

Wrong - the antenna plug has actually always been the customary method of
connecting cable TV. So you'll have no problems.

not that it will probably matter on an 'old tv', but I think the boxes are
mono thru RF, and only stereo thru AV?

If needed, you can buy an adapter from Tandy or Dicks Smith which will
enable you to connect to AV. I think they are around $30 or so.

depends on the box. if its got mono AV then its stereo via RF, if its got
stereo AV, then its mono RF.

It will plug in the back with no problems
The AV to RF converter is double that price at Tandy's/DS $60 or so $

Bought mine about 2 years ago for $29.99 and thought they would have been
cheaper now. Not sure where I bought it from though.

That will be fine as that seems to be the installers "preferred" method
(rolls eyes) of connection, even when people have newer sets.

The only thing that MAY be a problem is if the TV is extremely old (1970's
vintage) and does not receive UHF, as the Foxtel decoder output is UHF, but
there are solutions around this aswell.

The reason a relative of mine was given for the install via RF was that
Foxtel only pay the installer for a standard install [with no
complications, such as stereos].
