On my TV, Channel Ten has a weird tearing effect on the bottom left corner of the screen. This looks like a line of white dashes and dots along the bottom left hand corner of the screen. Enlarging screen size gets rid of these but then i have no wide screen. I use a Panasonic SD stb could it be a problem with that.

No, it's not your STB. I have a VisionPlus VP-DTV-B Card for my PC and
experience the same thing. I think we should contact them to see what they
will do.
I am in Melbourne (Mt Dandenong Transmitter), can anyone confirm if this is
happening in different states?

Probably some form of network control data; maybe Wide Screen
Signalling (though normally this is in the vertical interval) or
remote control for some other device in the transmission stream.

You sometimes see it on analog as well. I beleive it is a encoding/control
signal that is transmited out of band ('cept it isn't).

I have a similar thing with a "Fusion MPEG2" analogue to digital
converter box. It happens with videotape as well. Some broadcast
channels have this interference - some don't.
I rang the guy where I purchased the converter and he told me not to
worry as the interference won't appear when burnt to DVD and played
back on a TV set. He was indeed correct.
"Fusion MPEG2" has the option of chopping the top, bottom and sides
of signals to eliminate such interference. It's described as normal
in the literature.
I believe it's simply a question of adjusting things on the STB or
the TV to eliminate unwanted interference - be it at the top or bottom
of the picture.
It believe it's noise and not intended to be seen.

yep I have the same problem here. only appears with widescreen viewing on a
4:3
strong 5290 sydney.
it's a pain in the ass.
Cheers, Dean

It's not interference.

You're wrong.

It depends on what you are viewing, widescreen on 4:3 seems to be only time
it occurs, and even then not allways.
I would be supprised if Ten Digital does not have probs with it in Adelaide,
because they sure do on analog. I'll keep an eye out and see if I can
remeber what programs are affected.
After xmas I'll be able to check on digital beter, I'll be able to use the
strong DVR thats been sitting in the other room..... :(

Just checked 10 both digital and analog (they were showing a 4:3 ad at
the time) and no sign of it, even shrinking the picture so it didn't
fill the screen, to make sure it wasn't falling off the edge on my TV.
Both look fine.

Some STBs mask that line from view but others don't. If you get a WS TV you
can say goodbye to it once and for all.

Some STB manufacturers have offered a firmware upgrade which basically masks
the WSS line from being displayed (e.g. Teac has done this).
Check for any upgrades on the Panasonic website or call their service dept.

Actually this might help:
http://www.dtvforum.info/index.php?showtopic=1729&hl=panasonic+firmware
So if you have the QTR2140 there may be later firmware (which may or may not
address this issue). C2-01.18 was the latest mentioned as of November.
