Could you give us a bit more room for the avatar in the posts, and the profile, as well? Maybe you could try only one restriction (eg. just 10000 byte limit), or increase both restrictions a little, I'm sure people wouldn't mind d/l an extra bit of data for the chance at admiring other ppl's pics (Unless it's actually too much data).

having one limit is a bad idea. I could easily make a 1000 x 1000 pixel single colour image at 2.5kb. and I could make a 10mb animated avatar at 50 x 50 pixels. Besides, images are allowed in your signature provided they aren't too large.

If you can't change the avatar in the post, surely you increase the dimensions (I guess the size is alright) for the profile by a significant amount? You could warn them before they click on Profile, that they're about to d/l a lot more than usual, and besides viewing profiles is a lot less common then viewing the actual thread.

I just decided to set up an avatar - but it wasn't quite as easy as I was expecting...

On my User CP, under "Avatar", the only option I have is the "no avatar" option. There are no other option boxes, upload buttons or anything. Nothing greyed out. Just a single radio button next to a single option.

Under "Options" in my User CP, clicking the "Change Avatar" button simply takes me to the same "Avatar" section described above.

I'm no forum novice - but maybe I've completely missed the very prominent "turn on avatars" button. Or perhaps something weird is happening with my account. Any ideas/suggestions?

We "disabled" avatar and profile pictures for Moderators. Perhaps the new version of beta software did that for us.:)

i think the current size is fine although i'd prefer it to be bigger...although tsar does make a point.
