HD on Nova-T 2.16 software

I recently purchased and installed Hauppauge WinTV Nova-T.
It receives lots of channels and I'm very impressed with the output.

I have one question though...

Most of the channels are available several times and usually one of the
versions is a HD version.
When I select the HD channel I never notice any improvement from the others
?

I suspect that it's receiving the HD signal but displaying it SD format ?

Does anybody know ?

total lack of experience. :)

What resolution is your graphics card set to when you attemp HD? ie is it
high enough to take advantage of the HD resolution?

Much of the 'HDTV' being broadcast is simply upscaled SD.

Since you display on a 1280x1024 desktop, HDTV is being downscaled from
its native 1440x1080 transmission and so loses a bit of resolution.
Consequently, SDTV upscaled to 1280x720 (if your graphics card/software
has a good quality scaler) would probably look similar to downscaled
HDTV.

You would need to view a true HD source and switch between that and the
SD version to test for actual differences. The CH9 demo loop might be
useful to gauge general quality of true HD, but I don't think it has an
equivalent SD transmission for comparison.

I think there is a website that identifies which programs are in HD, but
I'm not sure if it mentions whether they are true HD or just upconverted
SD.
