Just wondering if anyone here listens to movie soundtrack albums/CDs and/or have any favourite pieces of original film music (or even songs associated with films or moments in films) that have affected them in some way.
I tend to like 70s era original scores - personal favorite is work by Lalo Schifrin (was thrilled to get the Dirty Harry Anthology CD and always can get into the scores for Bullitt and Enter the Dragon). Recently got Jerry Fielding's bluesy work for The Gauntlet.
I used to enjoy a CD of "The Big Gundown: John Zorn plays the music of Ennio Morricone" but it gave up on me (hope to replace it when I get the chance).
Also found director Michael Mann's use of the Iron Butterfly song "In a Gadda Da Vida" in the film Manhunter to make for quite an intense scene.

Donnie Darko OST is still one of my favorites, and after seeing it last night I'll be buying the S.W.A.T OST this week.

Reservoir Dogs soundtrack is a favourite, mainly cos of Stuck In The Middle Of You...
I wouldn't mind the soundtracks from the Final Fantasy games, but too expensive I think to import.
But I do have a classic one.. Theme songs from Russian films.. All songs in Russian, and the CD titling in Russian.. No English anywhere. Bloody thing came with my W&P DVD

My Fave Film Soundtrack/Score would be for Amelie.
The score is done by a guy called Yann Tiersen - and if you a lover of this film, and in particular the music- then this is a must have.

ahhh yes this score is fantastic... everything about that film is wonderful
I think most of the good movies you find they use 70's songs, which is great the 70's had great songs. :D

Speilberg generally gets awesome soundtracks, mainly John Williams.
And Tim Burton's films. Danny Elfman does a fantastic job..
Basil Poledous has providing some great tunes also, especially when added to an Ed Solomon script and a Paul Verhoeven film.

I rather like Basil Poledouris' work for director John Milius (particularly the original Conan movie).

Some choices that will be different (well some of them!):
Brassed Off (makes you actually like Brass Band music!)
Ever After (especially the Texas track "Put your arms around me")
Mr. Hollands Opus (Good 60's/70's stuff plus "Mr. Holland's Opus" itself)
Top Gun (come on, nothing like a road trip with that blaring!)
Blues Brothers (one of the all time greats - 'nuff said)
The War
BackDraft (Hans Zimmer is excellent)
and I've avoided mentioning The Bodyguard, although it does have some good stuff. Try and deny singing "I'm every woman" out loud and then realising it! :o
Armageddon, Titanic, and My Best Friends Wedding have great sound tracks.
