View Full Version : Projector Question on Price Japan and Lumen output

I know this has been asked many times in the past, however im now
considering purchasing from Price Japan.
What extra costs should I expect to bring it here in Melbourne?
Im after the Panasonic PT-AE500 or the Sanyo LP-Z2. Could someone tell me
how good these projectors really are?
Also why is the lumen output on these projectors low considering the price
of them. Are they bright enough, as this is one of my main concerns for my
projector. I will have a little bit of ambient light in the room and will be
using the projector for home theatre.
Ive seen a few projectors working at several stores and they seem a little
dull. Ive heard these projectors are the best in their price range so Id
think that they would show a bright picture and have nice colours. Am i
correct?
Thanks everyone

for the sanyo or panasonic ... about $250-$300 extra

I have a TW100H epson which i believe uses the same lcd panels..so very
similar...i payed over $4000 and am still extremely happy...better than any
plasma... so for $2500 it should be a no brainer decision

ok....home theatre projectors are not designed to be overly bright...its
supposed to be a home cinema experience (like being at the cinemas)
having said that my tw100h is much brighter than the cinema anyway...and can
be watched no problem during the day...but you lose contrast and the viewing
experience is not as good..

dull?....yes home theatre projectors look dull when there is full lighting
in the room....the high light output presentation projectors have advantages
during the day ..but they are not good to watch movies on during night
....the $40,000 CRT projectors which are best for movies are actually even
darker than the projectors that you are looking at buying!!!!!

thats ok
Ive bought the AE500.And the bloody thing is plenty bright.
So bright that i turn off the AI mode as bright scenes are just so
bright.
A fair bit brighter then my AE300 was.
Oh yeah and the picture quality pretty much shits on anything
you will see at a JBhifi or ETC store.Including the plasmas.

If there is a little bit of light coming through the blinds, will these
projectors still show a good image? Or do i have to have the room completely
blacked out?
