View Full Version : Considering importing a Panasonic AE500

We're getting to the end of the bulb for my venerable Sony VPLS900 and
whilst it's been great fun, I'm kind of tempted to go full 16:9 and replace
the projector.

The Panasonic AE500 looks tempting. I'm guessing that at 850 peak lumens, it
would still out-perform the 1000 lumen VPLS900 as the Sony is 4:3 but
running permanently 16:9 from DVD and digital TV.

The problem is that who knows when that will come to Oz and what it will
cost using the very special exchange rates that manufacturer's subsidiaries
employ.

Which leads me to pricejapan.com...

I was wondering if anybody here who has acquired one via pricejapan.com
could tell me if they are natively 240V compatible or if the "240V option"
that appears on their website is in fact a stepdown tranny??

Thanks,

Don.

check out the review at www.projectorcentral.com

I bought a Sanyo Z2 at the weekend....(in Australia) as I wanted the peace
of mind, despite it costing a few '00 more than PriceJapan...lovely
projector, highly recommended!

also consider that when first released the panny had japanese menus only,
pricejapan have removed the warning from their site now so not sure if
they've found out how to change it or recent models have had the choice.
Probably worth checking with them first, its what swayed me towards the
sanyo z2 (they are remarkably similar in quality and the z2 has some nice
features, check out projectorcentral.com for a comparison)
